In general the region receives crap coverage in the mainstream. I can't even remember the last long running tv show that was made in Cov, Keeping up Appearances I guess? And that ended 25 years ago and never explicitly stated that it was Coventry.
The bbc must make a shed load from the west midlands in licence fee money but they don't really appear to reinvest much of it in locally made content.
To answer the original question I consider myself from the Midlands. Can't stand 'professional northerners' or the mockney accent that you find all over the south now.
Being from Scottish I have a lot more affinity with the North but as for Cov, it’s only been midlands
the only real question coming out of that, is do people see themselves as west mids or Warwickshire?
There was a series in the early 2000's - 'Bones and...' can't recall the full title. I never watched it but I think the synopsis was a few people who relocated to that London. Partly set in Cov yeah but nothing actually filmed here. I seem to remember it making the front page of the Telegraph at the time though, making it out as if Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds were supping in the Litten Tree before popping to Fishy Moores for their supper.

I remember from years ago (no doubt long summer school holidays late 1970's - early '80's) Mum and Dad would be at work, me and brother now trusted to be left alone. It must have been a particularly rainy day for us not to be out doing something and there used to be loads of old B&W films on TV during the daytime. I can even recall the title of the film even tho I couldn't tell you a thing of what it was about - 'Kings Row'.Oggy had a mention in Gavin & Stacy.

An American film. The only thing I remember were two kids discussing a 'friend'. One of them says to the other, "We should send him to Coventry". I was vaguely aware of the phrase but more impressed that our City was seemingly known 'worldwide'.
But it's our Coventry behind that phrase.There are 2 or 3 Coventrys in the USA, in New England
