You and I wish!
PL income, own stadium and 50k crowd - possible attraction?

Fans call ashley everything under sun but you cannot call him stupid - he's bailing out at an uncertain time for football - The future value of these football clubs may take a pounding if he holds on any longer - an intial purchase investment of £55,000,000 and a sale price reported at £300,000,000 makes sense for him

Amanda Stavely has a pretty dodgy reputation, makes Karen Brady look like Mother Theresa
And as for Saudi Arabia........
Be careful what you wish for

But as the first poster what’s not to attract - in the PL and big crowds - could be another Man City

I read the article in this mornings D Telegraph but I would much prefer to be reading CCFC awarded League 1 title and promotion !!!!’

Could be indeed if someone has a spare £2-3 billion lying around to buy football

I think a lot of the criticism is due to delusions of grandeur from the fan base
Yeah, their mid 90s success was a historical blip not normal. Given the way their average gate increased in the 90s you can perhaps understand why the fans feel that they should be challenging. This is another false dawn I can guarantee.

Apparently the PIF is the biggest sovereign wealth fund in the world so probably !

Interesting we could start a European tycoon league and allow everyone else interested in running things properly to compete in a povvo league

Ashley is undoubtedly a c**t but it feels like the main problem their fans have, which is similar to so many, is that he hasn't spent way beyond their means.

They have seen other clubs run up massive losses chasing the dragon and they want a piece of it. Ignoring that he has returned them a profit most seasons

Exactly, you listen to them and the way they go on and they want millions that the club doesn't make thrown in.

Typical sky sports deadline day type fans.

“It’s different up here, no one understands it like we do” etc etc
I hate shit like that. You get it from Liverpool fans about how there club is so much more, it filters down through their armchair fans till you get to the point that someone who has been to 2 games in their life is telling you the connection to their club is more important than having a season ticket anywhere else.

Hahaha ridiculous. I went to a pub in Brighton and loads of members of the ‘Brighton Kop’ were there singing Liverpool songs in a scouse accent, weirdos.

Yeah, I avoid certain pubs round here when games are on as you get wankers with full replicas on going mental shouting at the screen like they’re there. Proper farmer accents on them. I’ve tried discussing it with some but you end up with “YNWA mate, you just don’t know what it’s like”

I used to travel up to Newcastle every year and met up with Geordies and had a right good laugh with them.... then City got a result a draw ...late 90s can’t remember when ... went to go back to the same bar as always went back to for a beer with them and we were told we weren’t welcome. All the years of banter and they couldn’t take it back that one time. Lost all respect for their fan’s after that.

Fucking hate Geordie's.

Who can forget their wonderful chants of "Town full of........." back at Highfield Road. Not just the once either.

Also, remember going up for the cup game when Bellamy bottled it and didn't play (think he was actually injured) and we went up the Friday to sample the so called Geordie self subscribed best night out in the world and best fans in the world and frankly was a little disappointed.

Probably as we ended up in someone like Flares surrounded by Cov fans and the more drunk I got the less and less I could understand the locals anyway.

Oh. And those fucking stairs.

Yes, I live in the North East, and there’s no doubt the Newcastle fans feel entitled, much as I think Liverpool fans do. Cheesed me off today on BBC Breakfast, when the girl sports reporter (Sally something?) starts going on about ‘long suffering Geordie fans’ - they don’t know the half of it.

We went on the boat nightclub that FA cup game. It kicked off in a pub an hour after the game and I got a bottle in my head. We had a night there after Sunderland last season and it isn't all that.

Does the current situation make it easier and cheaper for clubs to be taken over ? there’s talk on another thread of a number of clubs in our division going bust soon as daft as it sounds despite the current situation I bet there’s still some wanna be owners around in the wings.

Think 1 or 2 Geordies are getting carried away.
If there is all this money behind the deal why are they paying in instalments?

Ashley’s biggest problem (at least where NUFC is concerned) is his extreme inability to appoint a decent manager. One decent manager in 13 years, the money they’ve spanked on absolute dross players in that time too.

Pictures of geordies dressing up in Arabic clothing. Nothing like projecting soft power using a football club.

If they've not won the league in two years time they'll be baying for blood and asking why the team hasn't been invested in even if they've spent hundreds of millions.

Mind you most clubs aren't that much different in some respects - it's just the level of expectation. Theirs is way above what they should realistically expect, which is mid table in the top division.

Part of the reason for that is that any decent manager would generally steer well away from them. I know it's been airbrushed but didn't they jump on Bobby Robson's back while he was there?

Listened to a podcast with Kieran Dyer and he refused to play on the wing in a game at Middlesbrough. Robson was sacked a few weeks later
