According to Uncle Ray (my hero), Dowie had nothing to do with the Dann and Fox signings. Ranson said his 'people' had been tracking the pair - possibly Thorn as he arrived on the scene on Dowie's departure?
Not meaning to sound condescending there, that's just a guess. If anyone has conclusive evidence on who scouted them that'd be good.
2006/2007?! He arrived when Coleman was in charge, he came in after Dowie had gone. Bob Dowie was scout before him, I think?
Thorn was at Ipswich, Everton and then was working with Coleman at Fulham. He wasn't here when we signed Dann or Fox.

Off on the hatred tack again. My view is that Thorn was complicit last season in getting the club relegated. This is evident from the comparison in performance in the first half of the season versus the second. It shows tactics and planning was inadequate in the first half.
I also think this season he has a strong back room staff and in terms of wages, squad etc. we are one of the strongest now in the league far more so than some people want to acknowledge (not you). This concludes he may well get the club back to where it should never have left anyway hence the serendipity tag.
Personally I believe he lacks sufficient intellect to ever be a manager of people and to react to adverse situations when they come along.
Not hatred just an impassioned view he is not up to it. No one hates a manager and I would think no one loves them either. They are vessels to achieve a purpose and as soon as they prove incapable you get rid.
It's not like he significantly underperformanced, like Cotterill at Forest for example;
Eloquent?
Suppose all that time worshipping at the Temple of Seppalla and rolling around in SISU dollars whilst waiting for his next SISU paycheck isn't good for the brain eh Duffy.
It's all that time in the cellar listening to his favourite music.
Quite correct, apologies. I can only assume a particularly fine Rioja had me all at sea.
I presume you don't mind me taking Dann and Fox from that list then, but could I add in Gunnarsson? He signed about 3 months after Thorn was appointed chief scout. Could I also add the names of Jack Cork and Jordan Henderson; both of whom were unknowns and whom he got to the club on loan, and another unknown from the Newcastle reserves who had just come back from a loan spell at Preston - a certain Andy Carroll? SISU refused to part with the cash to bring all three players to the club for less than £2m. Not Thorn's fault that the players he scouted would not be signed.
He also scouted Gary Madine too - what's he worth now?
To come back to my original point - his record as a scout shouldn't be questioned

I agree that he obviously is a decent scout with a track record in that area. What that does not mean is he would make a good manager. I cannot think of any scout that changed into a managers role which suggests the skills required are different. Mourinho was not just a scout but fulfilled many other roles and it was his working relationship with Bobby Robson that most attribute to his success.
Can anyone tell me the best way to Oldham?
"They'll be nowhere near the top with that Crazy Gang, Cab Driving, Fat, Bald, Cockney twat in charge." wow
