I have to politely disagree. We couldn't afford them and we couldn't afford to build the new stadium. We were racking of debt back then. Then again, Bryan Richardson claims that he was the broker of the deal to sell the land to Tesco, so maybe that money would have come the club's way in the end....who knows. Does Simon's book focus on any of the dealings at this time?
I was there as an innocent 21 year old oblivious to things like club debt, just sheer joy at watching McAllister, Hadji, Chippo, Froggatt, Keane, Whelan etc. Painful to watch that back now.
