We can't carry on with the teenage trio of Armstrong, Murphy and Maddison. Armstrong is a gimmee to play up front with a target man but once Maddison was replaced by Rose and Murphy with the experience and know how of Joe Cole we looked well equipped to see out the game apart from the last few minutes when we were down to 10 men.

Jacob Murphy is 21, and has got over 70 first team games under his belt over his 7-8 loan spells.

The reason we got to the top of the league was down to having 3 young attacking players in the team.

But now the reason were out the playoffs is everyone is playing deep against us and our young fast players have no space to work

Sorry Maddison in particular isn't up to it, this is going to be a battle from here on in as it was yesterday.

It is roll your sleeves up time and do what it takes. It is points and goals that matter not style and elegance.

Don't get me wrong Maddison is a real talent but I think the dynamics of the season has changed and we need to be more resilient and basically tougher in midfield, Andy Rose gave us that when he came on, might not be a winger as such but certainly battled away.

I think the other issue is too many of our midfielders want to play in the pocket, so when you have Cole, Maddison, lamieres and Murphy to an extent they all want to get the ball deep to turn and run, none of them really make runs off the ball in and behind the striker, they all want to cut inside, and none of them really want to get into the box when the balls out wide. Only Murphy gives us any width, but then he wants to cut inside, especially when he's on the right.

You're right, they're all a bit powderpuff and not what you want when you need to scrap for points. We miss job's qualities in this respect, hopefully rose can bring these qualities, as Hunts looking at a bit of a right off at the minute.

Re: Maddison (not aimed at you in the slightest, I know you rate him), he isn't playing well, but he is only recently turned 19, so was always going to have fluctuation in form - this has nothing to do with him being big headed because of his move, and he isn't a winger, so it's pointless Mowbray playing him if he's going to shunt him out wide. If he's not going to be playing as a number 10, he shouldn't start.

Yes I agree about what you say re Maddison I think it's either him or Murphy not both. One could sub the other to change tact if needs be I suppose, just think the bully boys of our opponents rub their hands at the prospect of the two playing

I like Fortune/Henderson up top, central, f;lanked by Arma and Murphy. Cole should always be starting in behid this 3 when fit.

You should then be subbing as the game pans out. If space appears to be opening up due to a tired back 4 we are facing, give Maddison the last 25 mins when cole has run his course, he can run at tired legs fromt he pocket, play one-twos with the big man or pick a pass to release Murphy/Arma cutting in from the wings.

If the game is physical and scrappy, we have a 1-0 we are holding onto, bring on a rose/tudgay or both who will chase and sticka a foot in for the last 20 mins.

We have a large, varied squad, we should be able to adapt to all circumstances.
