As far as I could see, Simms seemed to pose no threat to me and was central to conceding their first goal, otherwise this is on the mark

Rudoni is a lovely footballer. You have to be my age to have seen Ian Gibson in his pomp 1967-69, but Rudoni is the nearest thing we have had to Gibbo. Just wonderful to watch on the ball. Frightens defenders

Altho Robins deserves a bollocking for picking Lati and Binks as his central pairing in defence, he reacted well with the subs - hooking Simms quite early, spotting that Sakamoto had run out of steam. I am not sure Thomas Asante is a central striker

Bobby Thomas off to Leeds? Joking - but we are at that time of year when players going missing from the starting 11 can be viewed with suspicion and we might need to move someone on to bring in another midfielder.

Torp 6.5 great passing but no bite. He did well tonight but one of the players responsible for conceding second goal. I can see why he is so effective off the bench as a fresh Torp against a tiring opposition gives him a lot more time
Rudoni 7.5 Always an outlet. High work rate. Tired in second half.
Sakamoto 6.5 what a great first half but vanished in the second
Simms 7 he is a proper CF. Puts himself about. Not too much service tonight but he will get goals.
Wright 8.5. Bit between his teeth tonight. Can be a bit wasteful. But what a performance considering I don't think he is fully match fit.

BTA .6.5 an improvement on the Godden of 2024 without a doubt. He will get some goals too. A nice option to have. Hard worker
EMC 6. Prefers left side but difficult when Wright in such form. There is a player there but will take time to adapt to championship.
Dasilva 6.5. An improvement on last season. Offers options. A little rushed still when gets opportunity to put ball into box.
Palmer 6.5. Prepared to try things but didn't light up the pitch

Overall at points scintillating attacking football but with some sloppy passes and gave away 2 soft goals. Considering we had 14 corners and Rudoni can put in a decent ball we never looked like we were going to score from one so work there for the coaching staff. Enjoyable game when we were at our best with a drift towards the ordinary immediately after Oxfords second.

In all matches this season we have offered some moments of fantastic attacking play with periods or whole halves of drudgery. Tonight we offered more of the attacking but we were at home. The key is to play the attacking brand for more of every game.

Did you leave before binks had one saved on the line

Dovin 6 - had nothing to do other than pick the ball out of the net.

MVE 8 - Great assist and goal. Great player. Looks fit (not in that way you perverts). Was no where to be seen when Torp was 1v1 with Brannagan for one of the goals, but offered so much offensively can’t really whinge too much about that.

Lati 6 - It’s his best position for sure. People don’t like to see it / think he’s becoming a boo boy, but he definitely isn’t comfortable in possession. Gets an extra mark for helping Dovin practice his control.

Binks 6 - Comfortable with the ball, but partially at fault for the second goal.

Bidwell 5 - Again, partially at fault for the second goal. Not his best night for us tbh, but he wasn’t terrible.

Torp 7 - Great first half, second half he could barely run anymore and should have been replaced sooner. Defending is not his strong suit.

Eccles 7 - Good, tired second half and made some questionable passes / decisions. He’s a much better player than Cameron Brannagan who not all that long ago would have been a good signing for us.

Rudoni 7 - Faded as the game went on but involved in everything first half.

Sakamoto 7 - What a player. Obviously runs himself into the ground and then was dead on his feet and had to come off.

Wright 8 - Looks fast and a great athlete. Was clearly tired by the last 20 mins but still had it in him to score that. Was he playing more centrally by the end?

Simms 5 - Seems harsh as he no doubt kept centre backs occupied, but failed to clear his lines for the first Oxford goal. Slightly unlucky with it, his touch wasn’t the best last night.

DaSilva 7 - Was good when he came on, usual good understanding with Palmer. Wants to get on the ball. Unsure about him in duels.

Palmer 6 - Tried stuff. Decent through ball to Wright. Fluffed some shots.

BTA 6 - Full of running.

EMC 6 - Unlucky not to score, was a great save.

Feel like I’m being a bit harsh because it was a good performance, permeated by some bad luck and a few silly moments.

Yes, just the perception that he struggled tracking back once,he seems like he like really wants to direct the team almost with his contribution, afterwards suggesting where he wants the Ball to go next, not a fault at all.
It's a serious business/sport and he seems to understand this Eccles misplaced passes could take a lesson here probably the antithesis of an O'Hare,this is praise not the opposite!.

I think this thread underlines the beauty of the game we love - unlike a sport like baseball or NFL, you cannot simply boil it all down to stats and say who was best - it's how we observe (maybe where we observe from) and create our subjective opinions. I'm sure we all sometimes feel that we were watching a different game to one opinion or another, but let's not turn it into an argument or slanging match.
Plus ca change, and Play Up Sky Blues - we fought till the game was won!
Have a relaxing weekend, all, knowing we have 3 points in the bag already.

Never been happier to be wrong about a player after the start of last season and if he carries on like this, we could make an absolute fortune selling him on in future.

yep. Was thinking, when he first joined he missed a couple of standout sitters, a 1V1 IIRC against West Brom? And some fans were really getting on his back

The opposition were not really a threat. We dominated the flanks - I can’t remember us getting so many crosses in. If MVE and Wright weren’t playing we would have seen a very different game.

A wonderful entertaining match with a fantastic atmosphere. Difficult to know what some fans want, even world class players make mistakes in games.
Dovin no real blame for either, calm and confident with the ball at feet, made an absolutely crucial save near the end diving to push out a dangerous cross, thus saving a certain goal.
MVE probably his best ever game for us , brilliant cross for the first goal, great finish for his goal. Strong in the tackle, great energy all game, just a sublime game.
Lati solid game, maybe his lack of height is a worry to some but is still good in the air, and he has decent pace. Never going to be a star player or seemingly a crowd favourite, but surely a valuable squad player.
Binks always looks composed on the ball, and his passing is generally of a very high standard, good in the air, created a chance for Hadji in the 1st half with a great header, and had a great effort near the end.
Bidwell got forward often, gives his all, solid if not spectacular.
Torp decent going forward, not the best without the ball, but a player I feel will get better and better.
Eccles hard working as always, just think he lacks a bit of self-belief, but the midfield was certainly better than the Stoke game.
Rudoni has settled here so quickly, still a young player but already a crowd favourite, and its easy to see why.
Sakamota such an intelligent player, heavily involved in the first 2 goals, hopefully he can stay injury free, because he will always create and entertain in equal measure.
Simms not at his best, but we have already seen he will be a match winner in many games.
Wright a brilliant headed goal for the 1st, and he took his 2nd like a seasoned finisher, he could possibly had another couple as well. Involved in most of our dangerous moments. Sometimes looks ungainly but my God what a player he is, he would not look out of place in any Premiership team.

Agree I thought Torp did well last night, and will look much better alongside sheaf, the biggest issue for Torp is his inability to use his frame, he loses the ball too easily at times and the same thing has happened in all 3 games where he gets shrugged off the ball and expects a foul that isn't coming. But thought he put in a good shift last night.

How many crosses is not many? Genuine question. I remember two from Wright, at least two from MVE, two from Bidwell and at least one from Saka.

MVE & Wright were brilliant. Rudoni also had too much for them first half. Torp and Eccles were ok. Few iffy moments (esp Torp standing off them for their second).

Quiet one from Simms who put a shift in. He was unlucky to be pulled back for what looked an ok shoulder challenge. He was getting in the way for the goal by that Ibrahimovic bloke for Oxford.

Lati was ok. Not convinced by him but he was ok. Binks was great going forward and very neat on the ball but too passive at times when defending.

The entertainment levels in the championship are getting crazy. Mad division.

Should be focusing on the positives but thought Bidwell was dreadful last night. For a player with a reputation as a decent defender he’s so passive and sits horrendously narrow at times.

Yeah, the Torp thing is weird. Played some great balls, something like 89% pass completion and worked hard. Also made a last ditch tackle when they broke at 2-2 after their forward had barged Lati over - ignore seen it on tv and it was Eccles !!

People don’t see that though, they ignore the fact that he tracked back half the pitch, trying to cover two players, when MVE and Saka were caught up the pitch and focus on him not managing to stop a cross that should’ve been dealt with by our defenders

I reckon, him, Eccles and Rudoni (and probably rest of the team) were all told to be braver with forward passes and move the ball quicker. Meant we gave away a few sloppy ones but made for a great game

Edit - a midfield that was involved in creating 26 shots and only conceding 7 has done a decent job in my book. Just two sloppy/freaky goals - first one nothing too do with midfield. All looked tired at stages but so much better than first two games.

I think that's probably a change in coaching and want's of an impatient fan base TBF,for one so solid last season it's the on thing I can think of,or his legs are going which I don't think is the case.
Give it five games I think it be ironed out.
