He was one of the only players to finish last season with any credibility.
Ricketts looks a class above most League One CB's but is 34, so won't play 46 league games, plus JPT, FA Cup etc.
Johnson is good, but inevitably at some point will pick up an injury. And/or will have reduced game time as TM tries to keep him available.
So when SR/RJ are rested/injured, who would you prefer to step in; Martin or Pennington?
I would rule out Harries for now as it does not appear TM thinks he is ready. Equally, he (unfortunately) sees JW as a RB.
Wages wise, he won't be a massive amount and even so, I believe last year his wages were heavily subsidised by Everton. You would presume that would be the case again.
The only argument against, from an Everton/Pennington perspective, is that he may have to wait a few weeks to get game time, which is ultimately the reason players are loaned in the first place.
I also would not bring him in to play RB, he looked exposed in that position.
I don't think we are in a position to turn down players of MP's ability.
No way would Mowbray drop Reda Johnson for Matthew Pennington and i couldn't see Pennington coming here waiting patiently for a Johnson injury might as well stop at Everton and take a chance there. If and a big if TM got him it will be for full back, he might do better there with a settled defence and Ricketts next to him
Maybe Everton would cover the wages as part of the deal. It's not unheard of. You don't always have to pay to loan players in. If we got him for free, would people still say he shouldn't come?
He only had one major injury last season if i remember correct, a three match suspension and i'm not sure if he was injured or just left out for a while after the Worcester debacle. He played 22 games i think, about half a season then
