Was just going to ask this..
Anyone on here confirm the last time we lost a penalty shoot out, plus how many we've won in that period?

I was at Reading in 1987/88 when we lost in the Simod Cup semifinal, if memory serves David Phillips bottled it, handed his to David Smith who smashed it into the roof of the net.

I spotted their goalkeeping coach on the touchline held his arm up to show Lee Camp what way to go and the coach got them all right.

For penalty shootouts they should bring out the goals used for warm up practice and place it on the halfway line for penalty shootouts.

They should have both goalkeepers opposite ends with a linesman officiating and the ref in the center circle, when the ref blows a player from each side should take a penalty at the same time, that's two penalties at the same time, I'm a genious.

Or just have different coloured balls and both shoot at the same goal at the same time

Too many uses of the word 'toss' in this thread for my immature brain, struggling to contain my laughter!

Yep that one would be difficult to overcome....? Ground staff would take about 3mins to put posts on halfway line and paint a spot 12 yards from goal..whilst the toss is going on and all the other stuff...think it is a good idea..doesn't even need to be paint just a small disc really ! Still will not happen FA couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery unless they had 40 committe meetings spread over 5 years !:clown:

Think that's an odd way to do it - one team could get all the advantages of choosing ends and whether to kick first. Team that wins the toss should get either choice of ends or whether they want to go first. Then the other team gets the choice of the other. I'd probably even forego the coin toss and say away team gets first choice.

But last night with the Brum fans piling over behind the goal, surely that would be something for the safety officer to say "this is clearly causing an H&S issue. The penalties will be down the other end".

Posted this in the match thread.

Didn't mind the idea above of both teams going at separate ends. Some grounds you'd have home fans behind both goals anyway but would be fairer on all the fans. If you're at the wrong end you struggle to see what's going on

Yes they did, and the stewards tried to stop it and couldn't. Then all the Brum fans got their phone torches out and started flashing our players

Inspired me to look up the exploits of that great Canley/Cov lad Grahame Alexander, who never got to wear the sky-blue unfortunately.
Success rate over his career of circa 90%.
Reckoned he practiced the technique without a goalkeeper between the sticks .
Think it meant he never considered the keeper in a game scenario.
