I wonder if he's one of the players that could be coming in on trial. He's cut from the same cloth as Cole, and he could pull the fans.

he's not over weight now, he's been training like a demon, whether that means he can still play professionally at 37 and after a serious illness is another matter.

I think it would be very difficult to come back at 37 after not playing for a couple of years or to come back after a two year fight against cancer to do it after both would be nigh on impossible if you ask me no matter how much gym work and training you've done.
Surprised villa didn't offer him some sort of role though.

No, I doubt hes one of them, from what I understand he had his heart on villa taking him, but they chose not but apparently his fitness levels were decent.

Apparently we did approach him (as did Walsall) after villa said no, but from what I hear he decided not to take us up on the offer.

They offered him a role working with the youths but he didn't want it.

Got to be worth taking him on trial and having a look at. Wise was older than him and did a fantastic job for us.

He did the full pre season with the Vile and many were surprised they didn't take him. Apparently Do Matteo saw him as a threat as he had so much influence around the club.

Listened to him on Talk sport today and he's inspirational, just what we need in the dressing room.

Would take him in a heartbeat. His attitude is perfect to have around and even if he barely played would be a fantastic influence on the very young squad that we have. They could learn a lot from him not just technically but how to look after themselves and get the most as a person and a footballer.

Agree with the above, he probably wouldn't want stupid wages and the influence he'd have on the rest of the team would be enough to take him for the season for me, even if he only played a handful of games. Have been reading Fergies latest book "Leading" this week and there's a few pages in there on players he only kept round as long as he did because of morale and influence on the team. If we can bring in a player that then may stay on as a successful coach or something I'm all for it

That's what a lot of people said about Joe Cole last year and he was blamed by a lot of people for our slump.

To be fair, I'd take a post-cancer Petrov over most midfielders; absolute quality, and good on him for beating the disease and still having the desire to play.

Fans were quite prepared to accept Joe Cole, but not a player of Petrov's calibre? If he had a successful trial, if indeed he is on his way, he'd only add quality, experience and an unpredictability to a midfield lacking in ideas.

Even at 37, at this level, he'd be a solid asset. In my opinion, naturally.

Not sure about Petrov but some players can be too good for a team. Cole showed his class but I'm not sure phone much benefit he brought to the team. There again Wise was very influential. Always a gamble.

Great contribution, guys. I personally think he's worth having a look at. At the risk of sounding crude, I think that if you can overcome cancer and get back on the pitch, you must have a huge amount of determination. If he sparks his old flame again, he could be what we need this season.

Absolutely, and in my opinion, he would offer more than Cole did. Petrov seems out to prove himself, and we could utilise that.

So true, I thought that about Gary McAllister. IMO Petrov has had a couple of years out so he may have had less wear and tear on his body. He has desire and may be a good coaching option and be our next manager
