After a long working week following a nice holiday, I was half asleep/walking down the street and just dropped my phone (ironically outside The City Arms).

Does anyone on here know anywhere that repairs screens (it's cracked all over) that won't cost an absolute fortune? It's a Samsung S6.

    Many thanks in advance!

Yes done it myself. A guy in cannon park isn't bad outside tesco and costa coffee on a stall. Also you can barter with him.

Also another guy in rugby in the clock towers shopping center who runs a good shop. Fair priced.

Thanks mate, that was the first place I had in mind.

Any idea how much an S6 job should cost? Just so I know what I'm bartering with!

Hmmm Anywhere between £50-100. Depends how good you are at bartering. I think I paid 70 for an iPhone screen off him. So that can't be fair off the mark.

    Not sure of the name.
Just back up the hill from the Clay lane /Brays Lane crossroads where the banks are,on the left as you head out of town.
About ten shops back from the junction.
Don't know if it's genuine Sony screen but been fine for the six months since.

This was a while ago and it was the whole LCD

Is it just the glass that needs doing?

Phone is working absolutely fine (amazingly). Although I'm sure they'll try to tell me the LCD needs replacing too...

It is just the glass that has shattered though. Guessing in theory that'll be cheaper then?

Perhaps there are more companies making cheap iPhone spares? My daugher broke her iPhone screen, local shop charged her £55 for a new one. I took my old Samsung Note3 there last year when the screen had cracked, they said it would be around £150. I asked why so much considering the iPhone and they said its just what their suppliers charge, they just fit them and put on the labour.

Maybe it has to to with licensing? One of the main reasons Betamax, while technically slightly superier, lost out to VHS was Sony only allowed their patent to be used by a small number of companies to make video recorders and spare parts. JVC said whoever wants in, fill yer boots. Flooded the market and could make them cheaper.

Depending on the age of your handset, be mindful that any screen repairs by a third party could invalidate your manufacturer's warranty. Also worth checking if your mobile is covered by your household contents insurance or within a packaged bank account if you have one.
Some of the prices quoted on here seem a bit steep so might be worth checking out.

Yeah thats a very fair point Ranjit. Grandkids spilt pop over a laptop, I had to claim on the household insurance. The excess was £100 and OK, got a new one, but lost my no claims (for some reason, there's no "no claims" protection). Since then, have taken out the tech pack from Barclays - its £9.50 a month but that covers 4 phones and kit totalling £1,500. The thing that appealed to me is the excess isn't too much in comparison, and the fees don't go up if you claim. Same as all insurance, at the end of the day you're probably paying out more than you claim for, but I guess you're paying a little every month for piece of mind, rather than having a big bill in an emergency.

Sensible move Reg. I know for most of us the natural default position at the point of sale is to say 'no' to extended warranties and insurance, thinking we have paid enough for the product itself. Thinking how big a part mobile devices play in our lives, plus the risks of children, grandchildren, pets, etc and our lifestyles in general, it's literally an accident waiting to happen.
For a short time I worked in the mobile phone insurance industry and heard of literally hundreds of ways a handset can be damaged. Easy to be wise after the event though.

We have mobile phone insurance with our Halifax current account. Covers two phones. Had an old S4 repaired a few times which my son now uses and I have a Note 4 which has been repaired a couple of times. My wife dropped her S5 the other week so will send that off when I get out. Turnaround is less than a week.

Check to see if you have insurance with your bank.

Yeah. You have to register with the IMEI number and all that. £30 excess which isn't bad at all.
