Still think we need to go back to 5-3-2 or some variation of it. Teams are coasting through us each week. The wide forwards/wingers, whatever you want to call them, are not working.
They don’t track back so one of our two midfielders have to come out wide and defend….leaving a massive gap in the middle. Every fucking week.
Having Wright, Simms, Asante and Bassette in the squad it makes sense playing 2 of them up front together, with the option of bringing on the other 2 against tiring defenders. This 2 week break gives MR the opportunity to change things round.

A flat midfield 3 would make best use of the CMs we have while slightly reducing the defensive burden on the wide attacking players. The way I see it and considering the general squad imbalance you either go 4-3-3, or even variations on 3-4-3 where 2 of the 3 forwards can drop a bit deeper when we’re out of possession.
Either way, central midfield is being overrun too easily.

A flexible 4-4-2 could work, plenty of teams run this as a defensive shape but in attack it’s a bit of a free-for-all with players attacking ‘space’ rather than positional play.
In practice, you could run something like:
1) Rudoni-Eccles-Sheaf-Wright
Here you would have Rudoni as a RM who would float into AM channels and either a striker or Eccles would fill in that spot. Likewise, Wright would have freedom on the LW to change with BTA (for example).
2) Eccles-Sheaf-Rudoni-Wright
Eccles acting as a pivot at RM for MVE on the overlap. Rudoni centrally to be a ball carrier and when attacking, Eccles shifts over for him and Sheaf to cover defensively.
3) Sakamoto-Eccles-Sheaf-Rudoni
2 of Wright, BTA and Simms upfront and the idea would be for Rudoni to have a free role and one of BTA/Wright being interchangeable.
For all of my amateur brainstorming, it is effectively tinkering with the same system and it does require ball carrying in midfield and being quick in attack. So the issue isn’t so much what formation we play, it’s the personnel and we need the players to attack with purpose and be willing to take risks. As things stand, they’re either incapable of executing this style or unwilling to do it.
I tell you what makes my piss boil is Vivash has gone and Boateng is here. A class put your foot in player who was a delight to watch. Watching him on the sidelines my 88 year old mother would have more impact.
He should be grabbing them by the neck and teaching them how to play football.
I’m off to bed now before I listen to any more Sky Blue Daz tips
