Platt and Cody (1 Viewer)

Now that League 1 beckons, we need to pull our finger out and bounce back to the Championship where we should be.
To help with that we will need consistent goal scorers, and i think Platt and Cody are the men for the job.
They are proven goalscorers in League 1 football, so hopefully they can bag few for us.
Also, Cody will have a full pre season this year.

Any thoughts? Cheers

Cody proven at league two

Platt proven target man at league one / championship but no goalscorer

Sheff proven at championship level but getting on

Roy odonovan proven at league one

Clark Harris, given away for a laugh

If Platt stays, and that's a big if, I think he will struggle to play 50% of our games.

He has played when injured this season, and at his age, I think it will limit what he can do over the course of the season.

I'm VERY optimistic about Cody next season though. Think he will come good.

Apologies, thort league 1. Even so, these lads (if they stay) have proven they can score goals in lower leagues is what im getting at. If they can rekindle that then great, cus thats all weve got

Cody scored 25 league goals in 41 games for Gillingham in 2010/2011 season but I believe they were League 2 not League 1 at the timw.

PUSB
So league two then

One below the league that odonovan did well in.?,

Personally I think Cody will do well, but we need someone alongside him

I think Cody will get league 1 top scorer. I think he is getting better and better and will be an absolute machine. However for that to happen we need a powerful target man/Ricky lambert style player to partner him. Adebayo akinfenwa is fine and has partnered Cody before in a lethal Gillingham strike partnership so he would be fine. I'm sure thorn has an eye on somebody but all speculation until transfer embargo is lifted. Platt is fine but won't get us promotion.

Yeh i agree. Thorn has already said hes made enquiries into new players that want to play for us next season, lets just hope it is someone to partner cody up front. Im not sayin Platt is gonna be our saviour, but he can ship in with some goals. Cody will be the man

Mcdonald hopefully will score 15 +, I would release Platt, sell ROD and Eastwood and sign 3 new strikers to help Mcdonald.

We "luv" relegations so much, we've been positively feasting on a massive two in around 60 years.

Platt hasn't been a goalscorer at any level and whilst I appreciate he has his qualities his goalscoring record for a striker is abysmal....he's also not getting any younger. The most successful teams do tend to have a few players who can potentially weigh in with 15-20 goals a season and although I've got every confidence in Cody it's time for Plattini to move on.

Platt should be a squad player. He can do a job but honestly it is disrespectful to league 1 sayi g we will go up with him! Clayton Donaldson from Bradford is good and I know it's wishful thinking but IF we get investment splash out of Jordan roades!

ROD hasn't set the world alight in Scotland, has he? What is it, one goal in 10 games? He was on the bench for Hibs losing to St Mirren yesterday, coming on after 73 minutes and failing to find the net again. He's not - in my opinion - part of the solution

Lets face it, ROD can't even kick a ball properly.

One of the reasons we were relegated was because we went for good playrs from the lower divisions hoping they would be good at championship level. If we keep them then I think we can give it good go.

The year before Leicester went down they bought Matty Fryatt. He wasn't a success. The year they went down I think they had the best defence in the league, but again they didn't create much and that's what their downfall was in the end. The year they were down Fryatt scored a bucket full which obviously gave him confidence and he carried that form on the year after. That's why I also think Cody will do well in league 1 as he's shown he does know where the back of the net is.

Depends who is in charge. Huddersfield didn't need to sell Rhodes, Sheff Utd similar with Evans. If Cody scores 10 by Christmas we will probably sell him.

I think Cody will do very well in L1 as long as he gets the service and a battering ram striker next to him.

Platt we needs his experience as a squad player and will be handy for a 25min spell towards the end of games when we will just have to bombard the box.

He is only 29 ffs. Just because he is 10 years older or more than a lot of his team mates it don't make him old.

For once I have to agree with you. Anyone relying on O'Donovan to score ANY goals will be in trouble. His "lots of goals" seemed to be 9 in 15 for Hartlepool. Outside of that in England and Scotland he averages a goal every 20 matches. He has to go. Platt is now off an age not be a regular and again is not a goalscorer. Its a goal every 5 games. It is clear to get out of League One the team needs a prolific scorer. McDonald may provide some of this but a new signing is needed that will get the 20 goals. Not easy.

He seems to have scored 1 goal in his 14 league One appearances. He must be on reasonable money. If any sort of offer came in he has to go.

Is that serious? On that basis we'll get rid of anyone who who has little or no league 1 experience then?

We really need to let Platt go, he's worked hard for us, but doesn't score enough goals or look like scoring to even be an impact sub - would rather have a Steve Howard or Jon Parkin at least they would score the odd goal.

Yesterday Sheff Utd brought Cresswell and Beattie off the bench.......

The notion that he will score lots of goals is flawed. He hasnt for a long time and performance wise is hugely inconsistent. Add to that he has to be on a reasonable wage this could you used for probably 2 League One players.

Platt and ROD would be unable reach double figures between them in the Blue Square League. Platt has never been prolific in any league and ROD is one of the worst players I have seen in 54 years of supporting City!
