I generally hate footballers and their scripted social media posts after a game but Burge has infuriated me since the Worcester debacle when rather than apologize for pretty much single handedly condemning the club possibly its most embarrassing ever defeat he deleted his Twitter page. Further silence after Walsall away this year and I'm fully expecting further silence tonight. One thing everyone has loved the last 12 months is the connection between the players and supporters. It feels like Burge thinks he's above the club.

Burge 2 - failed when questioned and distribution as ever terrible.
Sterling 5 - I thought he was poor today.
Willis 8 - performed well I thought, taking responsibility often.
Davies 6
Mason 5 - would be interesting to see his pass-completion stats, must be close to 0%

Hiwula 7
Thomas 5 - to be fair, he had three yellow shirts around him every time he approached the box... but that miss.
Bright 3 - he pisses me off, like the selfish kid at school with loads of skill and no footballing brain.
Baka 6 - had no service, I thought he did ok in the circumstances.

Burge 2 - Too many weaknesses, makes a worldy every now and again but that's about it. Think his head is in the Championship.
Sterling 4 - Not up for it tonight.
Mason 3 - Poor distribution, and wrong decision making.
Willis 6 - Did ok
Davies 3 - Out for too long needs a run of games. Bullied by their No.10. Should have been chucked up front in last 10 mins.
Kelly 5 - Tried his best, but poorest he has been for a while.
Bayliss 6 - Extra point for the goal, and decent tackle.
Bright 2 - Didn't do anything right tonight (sorry didn't intend it to be a rhyme)
Hiwula 4 - Didn't offer an awful lot, should have been replaced by Bremang.
Thomas 5 - A bit unlucky with the chance that hit the post to be fair, and did attempt to take on the 3 players marking him every time.
Baka 3 - Won headers but didn't get in the box to trouble their centre backs at all.

Shipley 3 - Played a few easy simple passes, but terrible free kick which nearly cost us another goal.
Grimmer N/A - Pointless sub by Robins, I didn't understand it at all.

A lot of the comments are about Burge tonight and rightly so, he single handidly handed the game to them tonight, someone on here said he was keeper of the year in division 2 last season well thats about his level, we sit in the stands and he makes us panic so god only knows what the defence think. He is costing us too many goals/games now, fair enough that keepers at this level make mistakes but these mistakes are becoming more and more frequent now !!
I thought Mason was shocking tonight and he was given the match sponsors MOTM..laughable, he couldn't pass to one of his team mates the majority of times, special mention goes to Baka as well saving the money for washing his kit because he hardly broke sweat absolutely dreadful, you look at Akins for Burton, he held the ball up and laid it off on numerous occasions I think I remember 1 time Baka laid it off, makes it seem even more strange to let JCH go because he at least looked up for it sometimes also Hiwula was fucking garbage tonight too.. Bright shouldn't have been booked the referee hadn't got a fucking clue last night, absolute shit refereeing performance, shitheads like him are costing managers their jobs!!!! .ahh well on to fuck it all up on Tuesday now

Some of the lowest player ratings i have seen on here and rightly so,absolutely shocking last night,especially Burge,some of the faces around me when Mason was named Motm, priceless,for me and just about sneaks it Bayliss,i also thought Burton played well,over us like a rash at times and they could of scored a few more,they played how we should of,hitting the post,the sending off and the Burge thing,summed up our night really,it was more comical in the end,role on Tuesday...

Well we’ll. I couldn’t go last night so my comments are based on radio commentary.
My views on Burge have been on here often enough. Needs at least to be dropped for Tuesday.
On balance it looked pretty close last night so we need to move on.
In defence of all the players I think the Ricoh business has finally got to them. I’m fed up,of hearing these trite comments from the players .’We just concentrate on the football. We don’t think about the ground issue’ . Total bollocks of course they do as we all would if our employers were perilously close to going out of business.

Burge - 4 Error strewn and at his worst
Sterling - 6 Not much good nor bad I thought
Willis - 7 Struggled with Akins quite often I thought but the only 'bad' moment I can recall was when he also seemed to pick up an injury.
Davies - 6 Also struggled with Akins at time and some of his passing was off. Not terrible by any means though.
Mason - 6 God knows how he got motm, he played alright but probably should have out Thomas though...who would have missed.
Kelly - 6 Not one of his better performances
Bayliss - 7 Two absolutely fantastic passes and at least one very good tackle. I think it was him getting robbed that cost us goal number one though?
Bright - 6 Lots of flashes of skill but not much to actually show for it. What was his first booking for? The second was harsh as he slipped into the player, however he could well have fouled the guy if he'd have kept his footing.
Thomas - 6 Would have been considerably higher if he'd just f'ing score. Got heavily marked and wasn't effective.
Hiwula - 6 Worked hard and wasn't given too much service to work from.
Bakayoko - 7 Looked physically strong and worked hard, not given the service to cause any damage.

Or alternatively he doesn't want to deal with the abuse - and nor would I. As in any career confidence is very important and being consistently told that you are 'shit' by knuckle draggers on social media is hardly going to help. What on earth has he done also to suggest he's above the club?

Incredibly frustrating night and I can’t help feel as though we were let down by the players. It was a significant match in the course of the season and there were way too many lethargic performances, or players hiding.

Burge - 2 - same problems as ever, his kicking and positioning, however he is regressing. Tonight confirmed that we need a new keeper next season. Booing and jeering him is not going to help, we need him to find some form if we are going to keep our slim chances alive.

Sterling - 4 - hid for the majority of the game. Defensively he let their winger get the better of him too many times. Looked an inexperienced lost full back tonight.

Willis - 6 - as always his pace was useful at times and he attempted to get physical with their forwards. Wowful passing, which again isn’t unusual for him. Really hope we keep him next year.

Davies - 4 - I said it early on in the match thread, he looked very rusty. He was bullied by their striker way too much. We missed Hyams distribution.

Mason - 6 - got forward well, never hid and was a constant outlet. However, when he receives the ball he often losses it or looks clueless what to do. Granted tonight he wasn’t helped by a lack of movement from the front four, but he needs to improve.

Kelly - 5 - lots of possession, very little output. Disappointing performance. Again though, should be caveated by a lack of movement around him.

Bayliss - 5 - anonymous first half and cost us the first goal. He woke up second half and his goal gave him confidence. Lots of ability, but needs to start performing for at least 90% of the game, not 20/30%.

Thomas - 6.5 - constantly tried, but looked tired early on. We’ve repeatedly mentioned his lack of finishing ability, but tonight was a pivotal moment and he failed, again. Always an outlet, but has been identified by teams as a danger as he’s always double marked.

Bright - 4 - tries to do way too much, but equally is the sort of player who can create from anywhere. His run from our half to there’s displayed that. Unfortunately I don’t think he’ll make it at the highest level; his decision making is school boy level. Although if he improves that and losses the selfishness, who knows? Never a second yellow.

Hiwula - 5 - played like a striker being asked to play out of position today. His first run was always inside which left Mason with little options when he had the ball. Some nice touches and that volley in the second half looked goal bound too.

Bakayoko - 4 - isolated but anonymous. Everytime they sent the ball forward, they held it up. That maybe happened once for us. Need to show more desire, else he’ll risk being benched as soon as we get a new striker in the summer. Offered nothing today and I’m still not sure what type of striker he’s supposed to be.

Subs
Shipley - 5 - poor free kick. Offered energy and a few nice exchanges. Not exactly a game changing sub though.

MR - 5 - worked well in the first 20, but he needed to change things after their goal and for the last 20/30 when we were chasing. One of his ‘slow to react’ days. I agree with him re fan negativity.

'Spineless cowards' aimed at a young team that has outperformed against expectations this season on the basis of just one performance is totally unwarranted. You could blame 3-4 players individually for the loss last night as well (Bayliss giving the ball away/Kelly back pass/Thomas not scoring/Bright carelessly sent off etc.) but instead like many on here you focus on ridiculing one player - Burge. Keyboard bullying at it's worst.

I thought we were pretty poor, and Burton whilst not spectacular, managed to cut us open at ease. Yes ref was poor, and yes Burge made a huge error. But we were Still poor

Burge 3 - awful mistake. Probably Our best player before xmas but has been error probe since then.

Sterling 4 - poor game by his standards, didnt offer much going forward and had a torrid time against their winger

Willis 5 - Didnt look comfortable, some woeful passing at times

Davies 3 - got schooled by Adkins.

Mason 3 - clueless past the halfway line. Not helped by not having a proper winger in front of him.

Kelly 4 - nowhere near the benchmark hes set himself. Partially at fault for the goal.

Bayliss 6 - MOTM kept trying to make Things happen after a quiet start

Thomas 3 - no end product. He is as Much to blame for the loss as Burbrigbtu cannot keep missing chances like that.

Bright 3 - yes he has great feet, and Played 1 good ball. But was a passenger for most of the game. Constantly slows the game down. Showpony.

Hiwula 4 - looked better up front. Offers nothing from open play on the left wing.

Baka 3 - isolated by anonymous. He Should take a long look at how Adkins used his body and strength to get involved and protect thr ball.

Shipley 5.5 - lots of mistakes but at least played with some urgency and moved the ball quickly.

Burge - 4. Indecisive. Really poor distribution which is a must for a good keeper these days. Hugely visible error that led to a goal and others that could have.
Mason - 6 Bright in places going forward. Combined well with Shipley to make that chance in the 2nd half, but should he have passed to Thomas? Didn’t hide.
Willis - 7 Strong and calm as always. His pace is important to our defence in the middle. Played on injured at the end. Tried to come forward at times.
Davies - 5 Obviously rusty. Got out fought a bit by their no 10.
Sterling - 6 One good cross, involved all game without standing out. I’ve come to expect him to influence the game more.
Thomas - 6 Pacy and committed as always but there aren’t enough goals at the end of it or assists for others’ goals. Without that he gets me out of my seat in games but when I get home, I always think ‘6’ again. Thomas has attacking threat in bucketloads, but he somehow needs to master applying it.
Kelly - 5 Worked hard but the game passed him by at times. How effective a captain is he? We really needed someone visibly leading out there last night and I didn’t see that from him.
Bayliss - 5 Took his chance well. Some good passes but also gave the ball away and made choices with it. One great tackle in the first half showed he can do that side of the game but looked weak at other times. Still learning and building match strength but what sort of a midfielder does Bayliss want to be?
Bright - 4 Can’t think beyond the two corners and free kick in quick succession in the first half where he failed to beat the first man. It’s a professional football basic.
Bakayako - 4 Challenged, won a few headers but basically no attacking threat.
Hiwula - 4 As with Baka, no real or consistent attacking threat last night so has to be reviewed as being pretty ineffective.
Shipley - 5 Tried to do the simple, more forward looking passes we needed. He’s a player who largely provides a foundation for others to do their thing and win the game but those other players weren’t at the races last night.

The sending off - 10 for influencing the game. Bright slipped but the booking in first half cost him so that’s what he needs to look at.

Second half ref - 0 Poor decision making and fell for Burton’s con artist tactics.

Davies 5 - unsurprisingly he looked a bit rusty, needs to work on his distribution
Mason 6 - worked hard and sometimes tackled strongly. Too often gets caught out due to poor positioning
Kelly 5 - too many passes went astray and well below his usual high standard
Baylis 7 - was a bit of a handful when running at them
Hiwula 5 - tried but struggled to have an impact
Thomas 6 - sometimes took on 2 or even 3 defenders and needed better support. Unlucky with the shot hitting the post
Bright 5 - a bit meh, but unlucky to be sent off

You miss the point. Entirely.

I was pointing to the fact that there are fine lines in football and all numbers of factors that possibly resulted in us losing last night. I guess you don't dispute the other 3 factors I pointed out in my post - Bayliss mistake, Bright sending off and Thomas with another glaring miss. I happen to like all of those players but as with Burge they make mistakes on the pitch.

I find the singling out of one player very unfair.

There seems to be an unfortunate tendency amongst our support to cheer after big wins (last week was all about our brilliance and the march to the arch) and then react with spite and negativity (usually aimed at one player) when a game doesn't work out. It's pretty depressing to be honest and to label the team as 'spineless cowards' in a total reactionary way after one poor performance is a disgrace.

Of course it was a mistake by Burge. His confidence is already low and our support is not helping in any way. Just seems to me that our fans happily let the mistakes of others go without comment but are always happy to put the boot into the latest boo boy. These supporters also quickly forget the great performances by the same player during their time with the club - to me Burgey is not the answer but deserves at least some respect for his amazing performances at the back end of last season with Notts County away as the best example. I know it will not be given.

At the back end of last season he was given plaudits because he done well now he is being given shit because he is costing us goals/points on a regular basis, he hasn't become the new boo boy overnight he has excelled himself to easily be the boo boy in his own right, other players make mistakes but are not costing us points every time they do it whereas keepers who make mistakes often cost teams goals, all keepers at some point will make a mistake but our keeper is mistake after mistake after mistake if you don't realise that then don't try to berate other fans who don't have blinkers on

Burge has no competition the current number two is a bloke who is tall and that’s about it, the defence has zero confidence in Burge as you don’t know what he is going to do when Stockdale was here if the ball came into the box they all knew it was his, Burge stays when he should go and goes when he should stay. His kicking and general distribution is dreadful for a professional.

He is not the worst goalie we have ever had.

Played very well for the first 15 minutes and then in bursts thereafter. Burton were considerably less able than us a footballing unit but played to their strengths, saw out our early pressure then imposed their game of hassling, pressuring and crowding our men. A notable change in mood and flow of the game after their goal. Sending off was very harsh.

Burge: 5 dreadful error at just the wrong time and some poor kicking. Stayed on his line a lot. Some smart stops too and did well to charge out of his box in the second half.

Sterling: 6.5 tidy, didn't do a lot wrong but we didn't see his normal enterprising play so much.
Willis: 7 ran round all night and got in the way of a shot or two. Most of his long passes seem aimless.
Davies: 6 no disaster but needs a game or two to get up to speed. Also some poor distribution.
Mason: 6 gave the ball away and got into some awkward body shapes to avoid using his right foot which slowed down our play - tried to get forward when he could.

Thomas: 8 our MOTM. Tireless pressing, tackling, dribbling and although he hit the post he did the right thing with the shot. Always an outlet.
Bayliss: 7 mobile, willing and talented. He gives the ball away a lot still though.
Kelly: 6: all right. Good tackles, always available. Has been better recently.
Hiwula: 6 yet another mediocre game, but had a decent shot and some darting runs

Bright: 5,5 unlucky to be sent off though should have been much more careful. Still didn't see that decisive pass you thnk he must be capable of.
Bakayoko: 5.5 mostly anonymous but ran around a bit

Last night's second goal was, I think the second goal all season that can be directly attributed to a fault by Burge.
He was very poor last night, but his error, and his questionable communications with his back four led to many worrying moments. As far as distribution is concerned, he was not the only one to mis-place passes.
He was not at fault for the first goal, Bayliss giving the ball away, and their winger walking past Mason to give the ball away, and the failure to get in and block by Willis or Davies were.
There were a couple of tremendous blocks made by the Burton defence to stop goal-bound shots, and their striker, working in exactly the same conditions as Bakayoko, showed how to win and hold a ball up.
Thomas yet again failed in a position where he should have scored but doesn't receive the vitriolic comments from most. He also failed to find a player when he got to the by-line in the first half with (shock-horror) 3 or 4 team-mates in the box.
Bright was anonymous before being sent off - his second booking was harsh, but his lack of argument and feigned injury lead me to think he knew what was coming and that it was a foul. The ref bottled it, and should have given him a talking to.
What is the situation with Meyler? I would have brought him on straight away for Bakayoko after the sending off.
