Portsmouth have been issued a winding up notice by hmrc. Does this meen point deductions???? If it does we will only be 2 points from safety!!!!!!

Also, their parent company is in administration. Not entirely sure how they have managed to avoid a points deduction so far.

And how does wishing a points deduction on someone makes us any different to Sunderland fans?

Yes, the points deduction might help us, but our behaviour would not win any friends in the long run.

I genuinely couldn't care less about any club other than Coventry City. If Portsmouth losing points meant that we stayed up by our fingernails then that's absolutely fine by me.

And it wouldn't be about rejoicing in another Club's demise it would be about celebrating us not having to play in Division 3 (for at least 1 more season in any case).

And if the boot was on the other foot I wouldn't expect fans of other Club's to give a toss about us either. It's dog eat dog.

I agree to a point. But you could argue that by not paying tax they have gained an unfair advantage somewhere along the line? Admittedly it isn't this season but a few years back overspending to win trophies.....

Feel for them to be honest. I worked with quite a few lads down in Pompey, and the real footy nutters. Another case of a club been run by unfit owners, its always the fans who suffer in the end.

I genuinely feel for the Pompey fans, we know what it's like when cretins destroy your club from the inside. However, if they do have points deducted then from an entirely selfish, sky blue glasses standpoint, it means the great escape is REALLY on. We're in no position to get holy and righteous, i want us to claw, bite and scratch to get out of this mess!

If they are wound up, not only would they be deducted the points, or forfeit their place in the league; but wouldn't their results to date be ruled null and void if they can't complete the season? Millwall, Watford and Ipswich have all taken 3 points off them, and Bristol City one for a draw; whereas we lost. Would it be possible that our relative position therefore be improved twice over?

Anyone know how this would work?!?

Yes but they recognise that selling their best players will land them in League 1 for sure....perhaps now they will change that stance.

We in our recent history took the hard option on 2-3 occassions where we may have gone into admin ,to the clubs benefit ,not those of creditors ,but chose to persevere,which has lead to our weakened state,so they have to take the hit due to them,most of their problems stem from the profligate ,serial ship jumper ,uncle Harry.

If Pompey we're to be liquidated and they couldn't fulfil their fixtures their results would be expunged from the records, I would imagine that the team finishing third bottom would win a repreive and stay in the division. Real shame if they do go out of business altogether but it is only a matter of time before it happens to a well known club. Would prefer it if we stay up without having to rely on this scenario but if it happens then so be it.

We stayed up in 1997 due to Middlesbrough getting points deducted. Could do without being saved again because of this to be honest.

Sorry but i can not agree with this. We all got up in arms when the so called Sunderland fans were relishing our demise. What is different to us prospering by another clubs problems and being happy about. I know the club has escaped a couple of times but that is not the fans fault and they like us are the real suffers.

I feel sorry for Pompey fans saved from financial ruin only to be screwed over.....sounds horribly familiar.
I hope they find a way to keep the club going but i'd be happy to see them relegated if it means we stay up

I posted the other day with regards the moral dilemama of this. Would you rather go down, or see them take our place on a technicality?

That stated, all clubs have to operate within the rules - both on and off the field. If Pompey have had a benefit from a better calibre of player, but this has been at the expense of their financial fair play, then that's wrong; and the punishments well known by all.

The flip side of this being that such financial mismanagement isn't the fault of the fans - and yes, one can't help but feel for them

I think I'm a bad luck charm...I live near Portsmouth and work in Portsmouth and they're in trouble. My last position was at Southampton FC and they went into administration and I'm a fan of CCFC. Gulp. :facepalm:

In all seriousness, we've been so close to this situation, that I feel for the Pompey fans. I have many close friends who are regulars at Fratton Park and I can only imagine what they're going through. It's not their fault, it's the way the club has been run. They, like us, are the unfortunate followers of poor and over-zealous mis-management.

I also agree with the fact that I would prefer it if we stayed up by playing our way out of trouble. That said, I'll take whatever we can get to be honest.

Shame to lose any professional football club, be it Pompey or anyone else. Once you get past the big few in the Prem, professional clubs play a real part in local communities including integration and if any local club goes bust, the knock on effect is far more than a football club. Same with Darlington as well. Hope they get through their rough ride.

As for CCFC...here's hoping. I don't think we're on life support just yet, but we're not far away.

Thinking that 'it's only tax money' ... paying the HMRC is not important ... is not only morally wrong it's also unfair to the other clubs who pay their dues.
This is why Financial Fair Play is so important.

HMRC hits them with a winding up order in December 09
Enter administraton in February 10, being £135m - yes, £135m in debt
Relegation, new owners
November 11, European-wide arrest warrant issued for their new owner
End of November 11, ownering business enters administration
January 12, HMRC issue another winding up order.....

That's all in the time we've been owned by SISU. Makes Joy Seppala look like Mother Theresa of Calcutta
