Premier League football on BT Sport to be free for broadband users (1 Viewer)

BT Sport has revealed that its new channels will be available free for 5 million BT Broadband users.

The broadcaster, which is aiming to topple Sky's domination of sports coverage, launched three channels today (May 9) - BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN.

BT broadband users will be able to access the channels without added cost through Sky, YouView and BT Vision.

Non-BT users can add the channel via Sky for £12-a-month or £15 for HD. The channels will also have a dedicated app online.

BT's sports coverage includes 38 exclusive Premier League games, 69 Aviva Premiership rugby games, and various FA Cup, Europa League, Bundesliga and Scottish football fixtures. MotoGP, WTA women's tennis and UFC fights will also be shown.

The 38 Premier League games include 18 of the best quality 'top pick' matches, which for the first time ever are not all with Sky Sports.

BT chief exec Ian Livingston said: "UK sports fans have had a rough deal for too long. Many have been priced out of the market but we will change this by giving away BT Sport for free with our broadband. Sports fans are the winners today."

Jake Humphrey, Lawrence Dallaglio and Clare Balding will head up the BT Sport presenting team.

Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen, David James and Owen Hargreaves are among BT's signings for their football commentary and pundits lineup.

I'm glad sky have competition - although short term means more forking out for those willing & able...long term I think it might drive prices down. The fact is only the rich can now watch all televised matches already, & that'll continue to be the case. Sadly, only the rich can afford time & funds to attend matches regularly anyway!

I read somewhere today that they'll be showing 380 Serie A games each season. If my maths is right that's every single game. They've also got some of the 'first pick' Premier League games, and some Bundesliga, as well as some Premiership rugby.
