He's a different player now, doesn't have the legs he used to.
Their problems definitely go deeper than him but he's preventing their rebuild by putting up mediocre stats and preventing the development of a modern style of play.
I agree about his age , a modern style of play ? What is that?
High Pressing has been around for a couple decades
Which is all well & good if you think he's good enough still to build a team around & play to suit him.
It has but he is some way past his prime, you’d have to admit
Undoubtedly, can't believe it's ever been in question, he simply can't play this style of football.
There's a few like that (De Gea & Maguire obvious examples); high profile, decent players in their own way & will possibly put up decent numbers because they're playing the way they want to/are able to but in the long term it's to the detriment of the team.
This is the problem for teams like United, Everton etc. they have no identity/model to recruit & build around so you end up with square pegs in round holes & the downfall is inevitable.
It's past tense though. No I wouldn't build a team around a 37 year old , I just didn't agree he couldn't play the style in question when he thrived in it for years
It's whatever ten Hag wants to implement, modern might necessarily be the best description but there are very few teams that can survive now without an identity.I agree about his age , a modern style of play ? What is that?

One of the greatest premier league counters ever involved Ronaldo and Rooney
He has singularly put them back a year or two. It was an idiotic signing and an example of a mess they are in the back office. It's past tense though.
And yes, still an amazing player all things considered, but stopped Man Utd developing as they were, but they didn't change enough to accommodate him either, so it ended up a mess all round.
As @Liquid Gold said that's a long time ago though. Credit to Ronaldo, he's adapted his game to prolong his career but he can't play that way at an elite level anymore.
He basically can't/won't press at all either.

I'm not even blaming Ronaldo though. It's not his fault he's completely the wrong answer and they were prepared to stump up for him.Man utd have recruited so poorly for years , before ronaldo it was old zlatan and then old cavani etc
Man utds hierarchy have set them back years , no individual player does that
Well I needed McTominay to get booked for £25. Curses upon him!
Won't be seeing much of him with casemiro arriving
Would like to see Martial and Rashford back together if they can both perform as they did.
What happened to the lines they normally put up. they just showed a picture that looked offside then said it was fine
Old Zlatan was really good at Man Utd tbf. I'd say it's more the incredibly overpriced tripe they've stumped up for that's fucked them, rather than the odd OAP.Man utd have recruited so poorly for years , before ronaldo it was old zlatan and then old cavani etc
