What's everyone's view on the Qatar world cup, this for me is exactly what is wrong with football. These guys promised a shit load of cash and FIFA couldn't turn it down, now it looks like it will be played in winter disrupting all of the European leagues. I would be pissed off if I was one of the other bidding countries as clearly they have moved the goalposts after the event and ultimately their bid must have been flawed to think they could hold it in summer.

I will look at it two ways.

It was sold to the world as a NH summer World Cup. That's what it should be. If they can't provide that it should go to a re-vote. No reason why Qatar couldn't submit a revised bid that includes it being in winter in their sales pitch. Doubt anyone would vote for it though.

Football is a game for the whole world and should be access for all. I personally think to say nations in that area of the world can never host a WC as it's impractical for the big leagues is wrong. If it got moved to winter and disrupts most leagues we'll just have to deal with it. Rugby teams seem to manage don't they?

It should be taken away from Qatar....and the whole Fifa board should be forced to resign.....and give back all the backhanders they no doubt received...allegedly...

My sister lived there for 3 years went once never again , the world cup is meant to be a party a celebration , i've seen more life in a grave yard.

Regarding alleged backhanders, Qatar have promised substantial investment in projects in many of the voting countries which may or may not have influenced the voting process.
This is in addition to any alleged brown envelopes which may or may not have changed hands.
Qatar are not a footballing nation and have never qualified for the World Cup finals in its history and as such should have never even been considered as a potential host. Quite apart from the unsuitable climate, facilities and travelling distance for the many real footballing fans.
FIFA, with a Neanderthal out of touch 75 year old president have consistently shown that they are not fit for purpose.

That's a good point! They don't speak Farse (or Farsi!) - it's Arabic.
The event is, as usual, being dissed by the media at every turn. Even our own Olympics was dissed by some right up to the opening ceremony.
No doubt the political footballing people fuel this so that it suppresses expectation...& makes for a bigger "wow" factor once things get going. I'm sure it'll all come good somehow, but the heat for fans & players is a major obstacle to a footballing spectacle except for the hot-climate nations IMO.

I can assure you that in the unlikely event of a massive positive change in my financial fortunes...I may consider going - in the more likely event that my financial fortunes will not change...the thought of going there will not cross my mind.
