Quirke is waiting to hear if he will be offered an extension to his one year professional contract or if he will have to leave his hometown club in the summer.

Quirke has now made three first team appearances and has gone some way to prove that he is capable of playing at Championship level.

Quirke told the CT:
"I haven't heard anything yet. A couple of the other younger lads have been offered something but it is not affecting me at the minute because there is another game yet, and, if I play, hopefully I can play well in that and if a contract is offered to me at the end of the season then it will be great.

"If not, I feel I have played well enough against Doncaster, Reading and Watford and hopefully other clubs will have been watching. But my main priority is to get a contract with Cov who are my childhood club who I have supported ever since I was little, so I will do my best to get a contract here."

Quirke is the third choice goal keeper behind Westwood and Danny Ireland, but Ireland has a long term injury, ironically sustained when he played in place of an injured Westwood, but Quirke revealed that he very nearly injured himself in training last Friday which would have meant that Coventry City would only be left with the 18 year old Academy player Lee Burge.

Burge has been offered a one year professional contract with the club, just like Quirke was this time last year, but Quirke is still waiting to hear if his contract will be renewed.

He definitely deserves at least another year. He appears to have the raw abilities to be a decent goalkeeper, it just needs to be fine tuned and improved.
The only slight issue I have, is that he appears to be quite small. Not saying that immediately means he wont be a good keeper, but it could hamper him.

I've certainly been impressed when i've seen him though.

Mirror my thoughts Scott - he does appear to be a bit short in comparison with some of the well over 6 footers that seem to be the norm these days. Will he be able to dominate on crosses etc? Has basic ability but physically there is a question mark that could count against him.

I doubt he is expensive. Certainly worth another year by which time we will all know much more about his development.

he's proud to wear the shirt too as which is rare these days.

Given time to develop he will be a great little goalie

Do you have an opinion 'la la la'? it seems like once again you have just copy and pasted straight from CovMad and added nothing to the article at all.

That is fair and it is a good service that you provide la la la but there is no harm in offering a personal opinion on topics that you bring up for everyone else to discuss.

and btw Rob apology accepted :)

.... getting back to the subject...

I hope the club do keep Quirke although he has not played much he has stood in when asked and done a good job. I think its only a matter of time.

I shall add my opinion to future threads.

Quirkey has done a good job whenever he's had to step in

Sign him up! :)

Cheers mate, I wasn't having a pop its just I sit at a desk at work flipping between here, the CET, covmad and GMK and the majority of the time I have already read the news lol. Keep up the good work and I look forward to finding out what you think about some of the reports you share :)
