He isn't right but you have to feel you know what he is getting at. I thought they deserved a goal. They hit the post and missed 3 easy chances tbf. But to it would of been close is a bit far off.

Was just going to post the same. Fair enough if it was a close game and we just managed a win but 4-0 at half time and little comeback from them in the second half when we took the foot off the gas.

After watching his Crewe Alex side hammered 5-0 by Coventry City at Gresty Road on Saturday, manager Steve Davis said: "The mistakes we made were inexplicable.
"It is difficult to dress things up, it's difficult to take a defeat like that.
They had terrific possession when they were ahead and were very clinical, we made five individual errors and they have players who can finish.

Well yep, he has a point on the 3 Armstrong goals, including the pen, cause they are all clear mistakes.

But where were the mistakes for the two Murphy goals? Can't see anything other than great finishing on the highlights.

Can anyone who was there confirm there were mistakes leading up to the Murphy goals?

I tend to be a bit of a glass-half full person, and give the opposing team good credit. But aside from a 10 min spell in the second half, I saw a Coventry team rip apart a team that are destined for League Two. Not taking glee from the plight of Crewe in this - just stating my view of the game.

If you allow a team to rip you apart attack after attack, then it will always be a case that the goals come from "mistakes". Davies was right about the penalty decision though - it was outside the box.

Probably why we shouldn't be getting too carried away - but then, I'm that glass half full person.

Second goal - no 'mistakes'
Third goal - wrongly awarded pen
Fourth goal - mistake
Fifth goal - no 'mistakes'

Would say that first goal was a very clear mistake. Their defender has the ball in his possession and clearly loses the ball.

Just watched it back again. Very clear error by their number 3.

football is a game of mistakes! - the more you make the more you lose. i really do not see the relevance as to whether the goals came as a result of mistakes or not.
Also beside the goals, we were all over them.

Depends on your interpretation. He had momentary possession and was then disposed - happens all over the pitch throughout the 90 minutes. Bottom line, if a team outplays you then you will always make "mistakes".

I think this sums up the situation:-

"Crewe were being forced backwards, and that led to their downfall, with Jon Guthrie's poor touch leading to goal number one for Adam Armstrong, while David Fox being robbed of possession midway inside his own half with his back to goal led to Jacob Murphy making it 2-0."

If you're on the backfoot then a lack of skill/ability will mean that you appear to make mistakes. Contrast that with the howlers that Fleck made against Doncaster (I think it was) - now, they were mistakes.

I would say it is very relevant.

Great that we punished the mistakes but it is so much more satisfying when you score goals from your own good play.

If you are scoring through great football or individual moments of magic (Murphy 2nd goal) then that has to be better than scoring goals through opponents' mistakes, cos the next week, the following opposition might not make any mistakes at all.

Much better to be creating goals through your own good play. We keep creating good opportunities we will score goals. Can't always depend on opposition mistakes.

We played great today and won 5-0, none of the goals were gifts and winning the ball off your opponent is part and parcel of the game, I get what you are saying but probably 80% of goals come this way, the goals where you play 20 passes without your opponent touching the ball before someone knocks it in are great, but few and far between. Today was just about as good as it gets for me

His defence never looked comfortable against the pace of Armstrong and Murphy and had they timed some of their runs better and Armstrong put away the early sitter in the second half it could have been double figures. Far better for managers just to be honest about a bad day at the office and focus on getting their clubs off the bottom of the table which is where they should be based on the first half.

No we shouldn't get too carried away as the game has been put to bed. Just as it is no good navel gazing over the Sheffield United and Oldham games, they have gone. The next game is all that matters.....one game at a time and then move to the next.
