Extremely disappointed last night. We passed it around really well at times, but we had absolutely nothing going forward. Of the midfield five, not one of them looked like they were about to create a clear chance for themselves or someone else.

Allsop 5 - Looked very scared every time the ball came into the box and his positioning for the second goal wasn't great. Although he has improved recently, we must look at signing a new keeper in Jan.

Pennington 4 - I thought he was really poor last night. He is a very defensive full back so going forward he looks lost, his first touch is abysmal and is painfully slow. He did put in a decent cross or two, but there was no one in box on them occasions.

Webster 4 - Got bullied at times by their big centre forwards. Sometimes defenders can get away with being poor footballers as long as they are powerful and quick, but Webster isn't strong, he isn't quick, in fact there isn't much he is good at!

Willis 6 - Passed it around okay and looked more comfortable with the ball than his team mates at the back.

Reda 5 - Gave a pathetic free kick away for their first goal. Flew in with his stoods up and was lucky it was just a yellow. He attempts to be the hero on too many occasions and I cannot help but think if he just got his head down and played he would be a better player. Awful going forward.

Fleck - 6 Like I will say with the other midfielders, he passed it around okay, just has no creativity in him.

Swanson - 7 Thought he did well at times, certainly in the first half. He seems quicker and better on the ball than earlier in the season.

Barton 7.5 - He strolls around like he's Pirlo at times, but its hard to deny that he is a good short passer of the ball. Like with Fleck, no creativity at all.

JOB 7 - Worked his socks off, but a few silly fouls let him down. Poor going forward.

McQuoid 6 - Not too sure what to say, at times he looked like he was about to become a threat and then failed.

Madine 4 - Didn't win a header all game. Playing him upfront alone was such a poor move.

Subs:

Haynes 3 - Woeful.

Nouble 5 - Had no time to do anything, was playing outwide.

Maddison N/A

Pressley 4 - Should have made the decision to bring on Nouble a lot earlier. Everyone could see Madine was struggling and he left it far too late.

Not a good result but to be honest it was expected. The JPT was always a sideshow - between now and the end of the season we now need the sort of which which would win us automatic promotion if we are going to scrape the play-offs. Time to focus on the battle at hand and that starts with a mid-season clear out.

I honestly can't believe the negativity after last night. We have the most negative fans in the world, and i know we have plenty to moan about being CCFC fans but i didn't think last night was one of them. We completely outplayed top of the league for the first 45 mins and YES we didn't score but it was progress on anything i've seen this season in terms of fluidity in midfield. This constant moaning about how many shots on target we have, people shouting SHOOOT when our players are 35 yards from goal then moan when it doesn't nestle in the top corner. We are by NO means the finished product, and defensively we are suspect, but we've just gone away to top of our league and given a good account of ourselves. Danny Swanson and Adam Barton were quality throughout its just a shame DS doesn't seem to have the fitness to go 90 minutes at the moment. In terms of getting shots away, probably 80% of Bristols chances came from corners that they either scored or their efforts were really poor. They weren't carving chances open at will. I can imagine many Bristol City fans walked away from that very surprised that we are 18th.

I didn't expect much, but when over 800 people take take time off to go down to Bristol just before Christmas, you expect a few chances created!

I can imagine pretty much all Bristol fans walked away thinking that was easy!

We had 9 shots 3 on target if you want the statistics. When we beat Colchester away we had 11 shots and 2 on target. Colchester are below us in the table Bristol are top. We didn't win which is unbelievably frustrating BUT we didn't play badly at all which i know to a lot of fans doesn't make a difference but from the many games i've been to this season that's the most positive display i've seen. Sometimes you play well and don't win that's football, Coventry seem to lose regardless of however we play but if we carry on playing like that, we will without question improve on our current league position

How many clear cut chances did we create? You have to create chances in order to win games. 1 goal in our last 4 games against league one opposition.

Well it's a case now that any team that plays us knows to just test our defence and keeper and they'll have a good chance of scoring. They don't even have to play better that us, just ping it high into our box and they can queue up all day long.

I'm all for your optimism GMLK but I honest have none left...We keep saying that we will turn a corner, we aren't far away from being a good team etc but when is this going to be? SP changes the formation on what seems like a weekly basis, never plays a settled side particularly up front. The players don't seem to be playing for him. If the season was ever going to change, it would've been after the win against Posh at the Ricoh. We seriously should've kicked on from there but lo and behold we lost to bloody Worcester the next week. On paper the squad doesn't look as if they should struggle at this level, far from it but imo SP cannot get the best out of them or certainly isn't showing any signs that he knows how to. What does he waffle on about during his Press Conferences? Yes he's committed and he's a jolly nice chap but who cares? Robins was boring and slagged off the players even when we won which is what I'd prefer. SP settles for mediocrity and keeps talking about the future, building a club etc but he decimates the squad at every opportunity...players he has brought in and says he's very happy with when they initially walk in the door. Jackson, Nouble and Madine should be getting 20 goals at this level easily, but they won't because of the terrible style of football that we play. We need someone to come in and galvanise them just as Mark Robins did when Thorn left. If Pressley stays I fear we will go down.

We didn't once look like scoring. We had 5/6 strikers who are on wages higher than most in this league.

Madine and Nouble should be doing much better considering their wages.

In fairness to Nouble, the rest of the team had already given up by the time he came on last night so would have really struggled to make any kind of impact.

But granted, that's only one game.

I'm not saying Pressley's future shouldn't be in doubt from the season as a whole, i am just saying if you were an outsider looking in at just last nights game then i think you would feel as if we were probably unlucky and we looked a decent footballing side. There have been some truly woeful displays, as bad as any i can ever remember. It is hard when you're surrounded by a relentless chunk of awful performances but I can't help but feel everyone is being overly harsh on last nights performance.

I was amazed at how we started last nights game and was incredibly impressed. It was far better than I was expecting. It's just a shame that they got that goal against the run of play and we weren't awarded that penalty. I think we could have continued to impress for longer otherwise and the result could have been quite different.

Agreed.

At the same time though, you can't help but wonder whether the likes of Nouble and Madine would score more goals if there was any kind of actual service to them...

Stick Moussa and Baker in that team and they'd score for fun.

Madine would, not sure about nouble. Doesn't look like a goal scorer to me.

I'm not convinced on Nouble's goalscoring ability but he would definitely prove a useful asset to utilise in his strength and holding the ball up if there were others around him that could actually capitalise on chances and have some shots on goal.

Now that's a quote and a half from GMLK.......
"We're by no means the finished article."

Thank f**k for that.........

Well clearly we're not. I meant more as a turn of phrase that it really wasn't *that* bad. I was sadly out the country for the Peterborough game but i can't think of many games where we have played as well as we did last night. That isn't saying a lot at all, i understand, but relative to the dross we've had this season it was an improvement

Smudge1987

We're not even an article, just a small section at the bottom of the sports page showing the result and the top half of the table. Well we will be in 2 seasons..........

And thats what we are reduced to.

By no means the finished article, despite Pressley signing 30+ players. Defensively suspect and dont score goal, but all in all happy that we gave a good account of ourselves. Not having a go, but its a real shame that we have been reduced to being content at losing.

Another post on here says that it was difficult for Nouble, as when he came on, the rest of the team had already given up, that says it all to me.

There's only an obsession with how man shots we have because we fucking barely have any, I've watched a lot of dross over the last 10 years with Cov but its never been as shit as this.

Most Bristol fans actually think it was a routine win for them without them getting out of second gear, they also think the penalty claim was laughable and said they'd be concerned if that was considered a good performance for us.

We needed wingers last night,Quite a few times lovely midfield play and no width.
I would have loved to see a man getting to the byline for a cross.
Bit late bringing Haynes on the left.
Thought Madine was to isolated on his own,With not enough runners from midfield.

Err,, we lost 2-0. had only 3 attempts on target. I have to accept that there is a lot of negativity, but that is where the energy to improve comes from.

You are correct we are not the finished product, we do not not even have the constituents of a potential finished product. There is clearly zero attempt to create a team. What Waggot and SP have actually managed to do is get 11 people on the pitch. Now 11 people on a pitch does not constitute a team. Its just 11 people on a pitch. Teams like Bristol will let teams like us keep and pass the ball all night if it is evident we can do naff all with it in the end. That is not us 'outplaying' them, its them playing with us.

Whilst it is encouraging that we still have a few positive supporters around as is evident of this thread, I'm afraid this is symptomatic of what we have been reduced to and come to expect. Our fans have slowly been beaten down over the last 4 years by the owners to lower their expectations just a little more every month. I'm going to guess that our more passionate and optimistic types are relatively young and still live in hope as is customary with their age group, I was the same for 30 years. Sadly now I and many others are just too 'realistic' if you like and can see that without the departure of the hedge fund the club will continue a cycle of failure/demise/diminish/cut costs until someone takes over who has an incline how to run a successful sports club. Despite the Ricoh debacle CCFC could once again be a powerful force, the potential is there but until these hideous destructive clowns have taken their lies and bullshit and departed the slide will continue !
