We did indeed and he played his part as part of the 11. Squad player-Yes. Starter when everyone is for-No.
I think @Grendel is correct-would struggle to make the bench is everyone is fit.

It’s a mental thing to say - your third choice deep-lying midfielder is almost always going to be in the squad when your usual first XI system features two of them. Plus he can fill in at RWB etc etc.
Eccles is a different type of player to Hamer, Palmer and O'Hare, but for me similar in style to Sheaf. This is the first time that he has had a run of games in his preferred position, so next season he will hopefully improve further still. He clearly is a confidence player so the more he plays the better.

Nah, as someone else said, he’s the only proper DM replacement for sheaf and can also cover RWB. Nailed on for place in match day squad when fit and could end up being a starter over next season or two
The most likely transfer scenario that is put forward is a sale with a loan back arrangement. The problem this would create is it would use up 1 of our loans meaning only 1 more could be in the squad,i wonder if this situation is slowing transfer aactivity

I think he has more ability than Sheaf. Sheaf is a few years ahead of him in term of experience but if Eccles stays fit he will be the better player in my view.
Can't be bothered to check the stats but we do seem to do well when he is in the team. I think a lot of his work goes unnoticed as is often the case with this type of player. I think he is really good at anticipating danger and covering for defenders when they are out of position.
Eccles is fine. Can only think of one poor game against Sunderland away. Does need to improve his shooting but so does Sheaf. Feel we lose a little going forward with three defensive minded midfielders which is why O'Hare, Allen and Palmer are sorely missed. At present, Eccles is behind Hamer and Sheaf as first choice defensive midfield but may get his chance if Hamer leaves, which is likely.

Hamer is a whole different type of player who offers us something going forwards Eccles and Sheaf don’t, we’d need to bring someone in when he goes. I like Eccles though, he can pick a pass, gets his foot in, has a habit of popping up in the box with a clearance. He’s no Sheaf in his range but he’s a decent player in own right.
