I would have to agree ... but do also concede that other posters comments, that if we drop him one more time ... Burge will lose all confidence and will take months if not years to come back to the fore, so once we do this, if we do this, we would have to understand the consequences before doing so.

I know it may sound harsh, but a player isn't bigger than the team. If dropping Burge is better for the team as a whole rather than the player himself then it needs to be done. We aren't talking about Joe Hart or Peter Cech here when we say he may not play for us again or come back for months.

RCC will get his chance to impress. At the moment for all Burges mistakes on Sunday we won and are winning sitting 2nd in the table

There is no need to replace Burge. If Burton would have scored 1 or 2 from his flaps and drops then yes I would agree but at the moment we are winning

Surely you fix errors before they could cost us a win rather than waiting until then?

Might be worth seeing how he reacts in the next match before making a decision. If he has a good game and keeps his place then no major harm done. We are sitting second after all. If we were second bottom it might be a more urgent issue.

Yes there is that option but is RCC any better than Burge? U21's is slightly different to league 1 football.

You also have to take into consideration that this was Live on Sky Sports for the whole world to see, things like this will play in your mind.

Burge has more of a physical presence the RCC - Its 1 game that he had a nightmare and luckily got away with it.

Burge should start against Scunthorpe and if he has catching issues again then maybe that is the time

But it isn't a new issue? People haven't just watched the Burton game and decided it. It has been happening for months.

When he plays in goal and he is picked then everybody should support him, nobody is booing him at games or hammering him with abuse. If anything the crowd is nothing but supportive and if he does something well I applaud like everybody else. He isn't good enough for this league, it is all well and good saying we are second and it doesn't matter. At some point it will matter, there is no point waiting until then.

Sorry I disagree entirely with this, he will know only too well the errors he made on Sunday, he must be concerned in his own mind about how difficult he found it to catch the ball. If I make a mistake at work it plays on my mind until I sort it out, so dropping him might actually help him work on his game in his own time and rebuild his confidence.

People soon forget about his penalty save at Millwall which if scored would of changed the whole outcome of that game.

From what I have seen he is better and a lot more commanding. If not I would certainly be in the loan market for one ASAP.

tbf it is a bit broken. The question isn't that, it's more whether the manager thinks Burge will improve or not with games.

i would keep burge in team for next game. yes he will cost us sooner or later but lets just hope its later, because we dont knwo how RCC would do in his place. right now burge isnt costing us pts so no need to put in a unknown like rcc

soon as we lose a goal or drop pts cos of burge then we can make the change knowing we have nothing to lose

saying that i would have no issue with rcc starting on saturday!

Tony Mowbray will make that decision when has to, i think RCC will get the nod this season, and definitely play in the JPT. lets see what happens after that. I have stuck up for Leigh Burge previously but his constant mis-handling of meat and drink crosses and shots Sunday left me thinking to be honest. But and this is the big but if JCC comes in he has to be afforded time and not have the likes of Grendel, sick boy, Nick and one or two others on here crying for his head, to be fair they have all been consistant and have had their say for months but rookie keepers need time and patience.
Regarding RCC playing under 21s is no difference to the league IMO the goal is the same, 8 yards wide 8 feet high the goal area the same, the penalty area the same and kicking a ball the same. He will believe he is ready and at 21 should be.

From a player blatantly diving which the ref bought, Burge didn't touch him

Look I'm not a huge Burge fan myself and about had 5 heart attack's on Sunday but I just don't see the point in tweaking the system while we are winning and 2nd in the table

I agree with all that's said, the only caveat to that would be if RCC goes the same way you will have two rookies with no confidence, Kirkland was only 21 when he played so if your good and your young what's the problem you have to take a chance at some point. I still think we need a proven GK to complete what is looking like, all be it thin on the ground, a well balanced squad, but if RCC proves he can make the step up then in Mowbray we trust.

There is a younger one apparently can't remember his name but is a giant of a kid about 6ft 4 and very highly rated. Don't know if you watched that Peter Shilton story on telly the other week when Leicester sold the worlds best keeper, Gordon Banks, in his prime to accomadate 18/19 year old Shilton and that was in the top division, we are in the third ! As said if good enough you are old enough.

Exactly this ^

It's a big jump from under 21's to the first team unless you're talking about an exceptional talent like Chris Kirkland. If we were I'd imagine we wouldn't even be having this conversation because he'd already have forced Burge out and be first choice keeper, the fact he hasn't tells you that TM see's Burge (regardless of how bad anyone thinks he is) is still a better option than RCC. TM doesn't strike me as a manager who's afraid to either drop a player or bring in a inexperienced kid to do that job.

He fumbled an easy to deal with weak effort from 20 yards which led to the penalty incident.

We really need a run in the JPT to benefit our younger players. RCC will start the JPT, if we win, he will start the next game in the comp and the next. A run in this comp will give him the first team experience he craves and if he does well, then all of a sudden it's not so much of a difficult decision for Mowbray to make. Yeovil away won't be straight forward but I really hope we win so the likes of RCC, Haynes, George Thomas, Morris get games.

We were lucky against Burton. Each time he flapped at the ball it never went to one of their players. If it had they would have had an open goal. Burton were not strong up front. We even scored their goal for them. If he plays like that against a good attacking side we will get stuffed. And I can see it now. 'He has only cost us 3 points so far so should be given another chance' or 'We shouldn't hurt his feelings as it is only 1 game he has lost us'

I agree. Yes it is good to keep continuity with a winning side and only make changes when absolutely necessary. However it is also important to keep the other squad member of the squad involved and give them valuable match practice. The JPT is ideal for this.

Agreed. I couldn't watch. That time they missed to the left when he was stranded over the other side of the box - no idea how they didn't score that.

Nothing against the guy though. I hope he has a great game on Sat & we forget about it.
