Rent or own stadium? (3 Viewers)

Regardless of who the owners are we now have no stake in the Ricoh. We have lost that for good.

In the current situation if we got a good long term rental deal with the right revenue streams etc, would you want to stay at the Ricoh and make it home while sharing with Wasps the landlord.

OR

Would you want CCFC to own its own stadium out right, even if it means starting small and maybe if we ever move up the divisions grow the stadium. It would be the home of ccfc and one where we aren't tenants and in control. Again regardless of the owner.

I found it interesting what Nick Eastwood said last night, I can't remember the correct wording but in affect what he said was "Everyone states that a Club has to own it's own stadium to be successful but vitally it's the revenues from which the Club generates." Obviously it would be great if the Club could benefit from a Stadium which is used 365 days a year, but in honesty that opportunity has passed, now the Club has to be given the opportunity to purchase the right to purchase it's revenue rights for Matchdays and so on, it might sound as if it's not worth it but I am sure every extra penny would be welcomed.

Eastwood seems to change his story depended on how he talks to. They made a big deal about the multipurpose nature of the Ricoh and access to 365 day income as part of their reasoning for moving, but now suggesting clubs don't need that? Pretty much every football club has some kind of 365 day revenue....(except us).

i don't think that will happen in my lifetime ( I mean 100% CCFC ). I also don't think we will be allowed to build a second stadium in Cov - too many potential objections and costs. The P.i.t.S. Stadium nearby will never happen - no land, no finance and no point.

The only hope is a new investor with money and the good will or commercial necessity of Wasps at some future point. I just hope that someone can unite us with Wasps and the Ricoh at some time - it's too early just yet. I think the question will arise before the present rental agreement runs out.

I would hope that people accept Wasps as the owners and try and build a good relationship - we don't really have any other choice.

I would obviously like ccfc to own its own stadium what Cov fan wouldn't. We have the hand of cards we have been dealt now and I don't see why we cant get an acceptable rental deal and make it succeed. No reason why it couldn't. Yes you would like extra revenue etc but we are renting this season and you could argue we have a play off squad so renting can't and wont stop a promotion should be ever get one. It's been said the food and beverage accounts for around 200k so this shouldn't be a massive difference.

As I stated in the post you have quoted it would be great if the Club benefit from a Stadium 365 days a year in which they owned themselves, but let's be honest at this present time there is no is viable option of the Club owning it's own stadium.

If Tims fantasy land is ever built who will own it CCFC or Otium or the next sisu company on the list after the next "chuck all your debts in" liquidation . Heard they've set an Indian arm up. What's the odds that CCFC are owned by them next time round

I hope it would be drinks all round in the Newlands first... And then buy or invest in MGI. Having done that then run the club as a sporting business with the priority as achieving sporting success. Form a joint company with Wasps to take care of the stadium and facilities, and another to take care of marketing and ticketing etc.. Thus leaving CCFC as a sports club with a budget decided by yourself.

I prefer the other option of buying wasps out. If I bought the club, the quicker I could get wasps out the ricoh the better They don't care about us so I wouldn't care about them

Yes, but they can share the costs - more money over for FFP. Idea being get them to cover as much as possible freeing money for CCFC - as they are doing with us now.

I want us to own our own stadium and that should have been the Ricoh.

Now we have lost the chance of even getting the next best thing, a 250 year lease.

So we can only rent from WASP and I see no reason for them to offer much of the income streams of what they own to CCFC?

This means we are back at square one all be it with a more favourable rent and conditions to build upon.
Is that enough for the club o meet all it's obligations and be sustainable? Not so sure it is without a promotion or two.

Wasp could buy CCFC but doubt they could raise enough to make SISU happy to leave. SISU if they ever get us back into the premiership may have better clout to buy out WASP ironically. Trouble is that peanut price they got it for will rise dramatically with such a long lease to assign.

If we got ourselves back in the premiership in say 4 seasons from now what would you offer WASP for the assignment of the lease and to go?

Ask Wasps their opinion, they would have gone bust had they continued renting we are told. Owning their own stadium was essential for their survival.

Thing is, lets assume this new stadium exists in a place other than Fishers head and gets built in the Coventry area. Can this new stadium compete when you have the Ricoh on its doorstep and gain the additional financial streams to justify building it?

It would depend on size and how it is pitched. We definitely saw stories about how ACL had made hiring the pitch out of most people's reach financially. Plenty of people make money out of conference space - depends on suitability vs price.

Was there mention of conference space when they showed us their picture? They mentioned a modular system for the stadium - sounds cheap. Where is the stadium to be? No-one wants a conference in the sticks - unless it is in a beautiful setting. Retail park or housing area? Not beautiful. I don't see them getting their act together.

You would think a modular system refers to stands so they can upgraded/developed if needed. As for space... Plenty of people will take just about any space they can get - depends on price. Can't imagine a plan would not include it, though impossible to tell from the pictures you would say.

I don't think the council will be the main problem in Cov. There has to be an inquiry and there will be objections from the residents wherever you want to build it. You may need government approval - as with the Ricoh. There would have to be planning for roads and maybe bus routes. I can't see the need for a second stadium in Cov ( not talking about us wanting one, but seen as a neutral at an inquiry ). The city planners will undoubtedly have other possible plans lined up for the future which could be seen as more important. I don't think there is any chance of a stadium in Cov. Hotels, conference facilities, leisure/ sports facilities - maybe, but not a stadium bowl used for only 20 odd days a year. We're snookered short term.

The club does not have the money to build one.

So where would say £30m come from?

Can not be a commercial loan. No way it could be paid back and little security.

A new owner sugar daddy seems a long shot.

Best bet to me seems a fan funded stadium from which the club can source all the revenues. Could have ben done with the Ricoh.

Remind me again how many 60 acre sites are knocking about in Coventry? Should there be one anywhere close then I would imagine Sisu coming up against stiff opposition such as house builders, bearing in mind the shortage of houses (and not football stadiums) I would imagine that local councils/government wanting to lean towards housing and could you see Sisu out bidding a house builder?

Like it or not, we will be renting at the Ricoh until Sisu finally fuck off.

Lastly, lets not forget that if Sisu permanently relocate the football club outside of Coventry and away from it's roots and the city it took it's name from then judging by some of the feeling on this forum shown by some, we stand to lose even more support as moving a sporting team seems to be the work of the devil.

Wasps are not the owners of Ricoh. They are just a rugby franchise playing there. Maltese company Moonstone own the stadium (MGI Fiduciary own Moonstone).

Moonstone/MGI could liquidate Wasps tomorrow and the stadium/land/casino is still all theirs. Maybe they will if the rugby team fails to get going.

Option 1 is the only possibility. CCFC will never own a stadium because they have no money to buy or build one. They would have to borrow from their owners and so would be effectively renting it anyway. There is a third option though, another ground-share arrangement.
