yep id deffo have freddy in the squad ahead of rod, he looked more dangerous when totally unfit against watford in 15 mins than rod has done all season!

deegan needs minutes and is clearly not match fit, he wont be fully fit till xmas so another 90 mins will stand him in good stead.

i would still like to see Jeffers get half of a game to see what hes like in a real competitive game. Thorns obviously kept him around for a reason and he always seems to score in pre-seasons and reserve fixtures. Hopefully time will tell.

Not sure. I think we have plenty of options at CB so before Ruffles or Phillips I think the RB pecking order would go through Christie, Clarke, Cranie and Keogh and at LB Hussey, Wood and Clarke again. I'm not suggesting its perfect but I think we have bigger problems in other areas.

Jesus, it's not great that it should come to this but...Freddy as sub versus Watford or Roy as sub versus Burnley...there's no contest really, is there? Freddy wouldn't have managed such a technically deficient air-kick as Roy did from the corner, nor such a naive move as the "knock the ball around the pacy full-back and run on to it" thing that he attempted.

Scoring against a pretty decent Leicester reserve side should be treated as Freddy being fit enough to justify a place on the bench in our present threadbare condition. I don't like that it should come to that given his attitude, but we are in a desperate position and are paying the lazy git still...if he has any pride left, he'll use the final chance to ram his critics words down their throats. At least he has some footballing ability, which is probably more than can be said of the alternatives.

If Eastwood gets a run out Saturday the same old Eastwood will be on show. This has been done to death about Eastwood and it's boring.

He had potential years ago but after coming into the money at Wolves and City he hasn't lifted a leg since. To little to late. A waster who will have regrets when he hangs his boots up.

He wont change and we shouldn't be wasting typing time like I have just been on the idle sod.

I think it's fair to say that it's at the other end of the spectrum, for sure!

Mmm, maybe we should give young Phillips a chance on the bench? I liked what I saw in pre-season, and Cyrus is on his last legs.

On the other hand, how many more games does McPake need before we start considering him? The McPake-Wood partnership was the bedrock of our only real decent spell under Coleman , gives us a very rugged aerial presence and a goal-threat from set-pieces (I'll never forget the combo for the goal against Leicester!) and I really think he's be like a new signing.

I can see a back 4 like this carrying us up the division:

Keogh----McPake----Wood----Hussey

-with the option of Christie as an attacking full-back sub, or even deployed higher up the pitch.

I think it's very similar. The overpaid Tevez sits on the bench and refuses to play whereas the overpaid, overweight Fraddy comes on and then refuses to play.

With Christie's pace and Hussey sometimes being caught out of position I would ike a 5-3-2 employed occasionally. Might seem a little negative but I think two attacking wing-backs with Wood, Cranie and Keogh would be good. Better still, it would remove David Bell from the side

Nonleague, the idea of Christie further up the pitch isn't as daft as it sounds. He doesn't have a trick when taking on defenders but he's powerful and gets those crosses in. Might shore us up a little.

Christie should not be played higher up the pitch - square peg round hole. I remember we tried it with Danny fox , it didn't work. AB also tried it with Jordan clarkeIn, it didn't work. In fact the only fullback I can think of who successfully made the transition to wide midfield is Gareth bale.

All the angles on the pitch are different, the runs are different, the defensive positions are different, the passing options are different.

Yeah, he's a bulldozer when he gets up a head of steam. Whilst his crossing is inconsistent, the odd one is absolute mint, and I don't really want to lose his long-throws from the side. But he really could do with a break, and being used as an impact-sub, which is why a return for McPake would be awesome IMO.

Normally agreed, but Cyrus has played in plenty of positions as a kid-FM think he's a CB, and I've heard people claim he was a striker at school. Then again, so was Marcus

Lots of players have played all over the place, McPake started as a striker, rio Ferdinand was midfield player, etc but that's not where they end up playing. In fact Christie is supposed to be a centre back by trade.

Christie is better when running from deep when he can run full pace at people. I really don't think it will work. It's a bit different when your playing a lot of the game with your back to goal, receiving the ball with a defender tight against you.

We shouldn't be messing around with kids positions - look at how it cocked up osbourne's career.

He is, it was only a guess from me that that was where he was playing. But we had three strikers and three attacking midfielders in the side, it wasn't exactly balanced.
