Richard Keogh of Carlisle is set to sign for us,another freebie, though Carlisle wanted to keep him. He's supposed to be an attacking right-back,thought we had enough there in Crainie and Clarke. These signings are hardly getting me excited, apart from Macca just seems we are intrested in adding quantity than quality.
i will be happy with quantity, as long as they are decent players who can cause competition. lets just hope that they are the appetizer until the big name arrives!!
we were very bare last season and had no cover, 2 injuries or suspensions and we struggled remember.
Im not to sure about us being able to score goals Irish, apart from the 3 relegated teams last season,we were the lowest scorers.Thats why i'm suprised at the signing of O'donovan. He has'nt scored at Championship level so it's a huge risk,he can also play out wide,Boothroyds mentioned this aswell so he will probably start there.McSheffery will chip in with a few,but he's not a striker, nealy all his goals come from when playing out wide.I feel we need someone to sit in with Clingan, and a main striker.
Im sure Aidy's trying his best and we will see a striker come in very soon.Although im not overly excited about the new signings hopefully they'll all do well.Weve had alot of bigger names come to Cov and do nothing.I think Marlon Kings a cert to join us.
I think we expect too much ! I remain positive looking at our new signings.
I feel that Aidy is taking control by signing new defensive options and making the club his own. Therefore I disagree with you on this Trevor because quality can come from more than just big names. After all some of our recent faves have come from unknown backgrounds and the vast majority of defenders we already have clearly haven't done the job. Some youthful motivated players may be just what we need.
Admittedly we need some serious attacking power to be added to the squad though... Every attacker we have are not good enough for the level we want to be at. I would get rid of them all and start fresh up front. At least we have McSheffery but even he is a gamble.
I can see your point, these new unproven players should have lots of hunger to do well and be a sucsess. But Keogh,O'halloran and O'Donovan have very little or No experience at this level. With other signings imminent hopefully Boothroyd will add some proven players at this level to compliment the signings he's already made.
Have I heard somewhere that Liam Dickinson is in the frame? The right age, a big guy at 6'4". Good goal scorer at lower level. Marlon King is all wrong in Ranson's way of doing things. Wrong age, not someone he can sell on if needs be.
I'm a bit surprised at a new right back too. What with Crainie & Jordan Clark there. & Isaac Osborne to come back. Maybe there will be one or two departures?
