MR and the team have created a positive buzz around the club and the city. That is a definite. But have they "saved" the club ? Personally, I'd say no. We're doing well and have 6000 passionate fans that travel to Stans each home game but that figure hasn't changed much all year, regardless of where we are in the table. Championship or League One, if we're struggling next year, can we still see those same 6000 wanting to travel to see their home games ?
Now a sad admission. For the second time in 2020, I'm having to agree with GrendelBirmingham fans and Pep Clotet have been commenting on the poor playing surface at Stans so if the Birmingham board thinks that will affect their position and survival chances next season, I can't see us being welcomed back. And if we get promoted (we have a very good chance but it's still an IF in my eyes), where we play will financially make or break the club.
I’m sure you said that when we came up from division three. In the championship we will be in a different market player wise especially regarding loans, not a lot different to upping the quality like we have this season, its only Kasteneer who hasn’t delivered, yet. That’s the other possibility but we’d be relegated by Christmas
If we are a Championship team then we are more viable to be sold so SISU can get out of this nightmare
But if we go up they will up their valuation and no-one will be willing to pay it. They vastly over-value what the club is actually worth.

Not much to groan about at the moment, so people are planning ahead for next season's potential complaints & misery. Those who are saying we can’t compete in the Championship: what’s your answer? Refuse the promotion if we win the league?

Keep using the model we are, trust we can pick up some gems on relatively small wages. TBH if we could keep most of the current crop I think we could avoid being relegated with our style of play. Once again though getting that decent striker would make a massive difference. The ones we have might be decent enough as back-ups but no more. I reckon Kelly and Fadz would also be seen as being phased out over the season much like Doyle was if we can find alternatives

how about we get there first, huh?
I agree entirely, but it was a hypothetical question.
I think take the current team, remove loanees and we are short: CB, LB, DM, AM, ST from a first 11 that could stay up. All doable with sensible business. But also who would’ve said Max could make the step up last year, there could be players who surprise us. Agree that really it’s 2 DMs as Kelly will probably be a step too far for him but who knows.
I watch the championship on Quest TV and would say that we would hold our own against 60% of the teams would probably finish just above the relegation spots. Those who are saying we can’t compete in the Championship: what’s your answer? Refuse the promotion if we win the league?

May not be perfect but seems pretty OK to me bearing in mind we've had one of wettest winters on recent record - see Saturday Blues highlights .Imagine what the Ricoh would have been like by now given the weather we've been having. This years less intensive levels of use will do it the world of good if we go back next season. Long term though it raises serious questions.
Agreed, going back raises VERY serious questions. Like......
1) how could we compete with no F&B income
2) how could we compete with no non match day revenues
3) how can we compete without major sponsorship revenues
4) whats to stop our landlords kicking us out again
and many more....
Don’t all those questions apply wherever we are?
unless of course CCC and the club work together on a stadium that is owned by CCFC. Renting someone elses stadium is not the answer for us.
We’ll always be renting short of someone gifting the club land with conditions. And CCC can’t make people sell their land at a price Sisu will pay, and we know how much this forum hates CCC cutting beneficial deals for sports teams
that’s the thing. CCC said they would help the club find land. Nothing since they said that months ago. How’s that going ?.
Well there’s one of two options isn’t there?
Either they need to buy some land and there’s not much the council can do aside from give planning advice. Then they need to pay market rate for it.
Or if they can’t afford that, they need to find land the council will hand over below market rate. Unlikely.
This has been the case for several years now and we are no further forward. Possibly because affordable land of the size and location required isn’t easy to come by and neither Sisu nor the council are likely to want to basically replicate the Ricoh situation with a non-freehold situation.

But if the council handed over land below market rate wouldn't that potentially be state aid?
Are state aid rules still relevant? Who enforces that? But if the council handed over land below market rate wouldn't that potentially be state aid?

You have to think there’s a strong possibility that the EU’s jurisdiction over UK state aid rules may be time limited!Fair point. Will depend on the deal but unlikely we would sign up to anything like it. So post 2020 might be a possibility.
The main reason anyone would buy a championship club (other than being a fan) is to get to the premier league. We currently are playing out of our city and unless a new owner can put in a lot of money, will have (one of if not) the smallest budget in the league whether we’re in Birmingham or tenants in Coventry. Can’t see a buyer being interested, especially at SISUs price. If we are a Championship team then we are more viable to be sold so SISU can get out of this nightmare
I can't imagine a conservative government being a fan of state aid, or even allowing it open for a future lefty government to use it without effort. You have to think there’s a strong possibility that the EU’s jurisdiction over UK state aid rules may be time limited!
Not that it makes CCC giving us a juicy plot of land for a packet of fags and a can of shandy bass any more likely.
Maybe so. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Still, can’t see it making much difference to any deal between CCC and SISU...I can't imagine a conservative government being a fan of state aid, or even allowing it open for a future lefty government to use it without effort.
Expect tighter rules than now.

My pedantic mind spotted that toInteresting article that also proves that they don't understand geometry"Mark Robins has been instrumental in the way a free-falling side have performed a three-sixty and started to climb back from whence they came." If we did a 360, we'd go full circle and still be headed for the Non-League scene. We'd only need to complete a 180 turn to be facing the right way. ompus::woot::woot:
