I think he's just one of those players that will be fairly anonymous for 90 minutes but will happen to pop up with a goal or two.

Isn't that the very thing the first team is missing at the moment, with Godden out?

I look forward to my callup at the weekend, then, to see if I'm the goalscoring centreforward we need.

I think there's a massive difference between popping up with the odd goal in the U23s and being able to replicate that in the Championship. Baring in mind he's playing against 17/18/19 year olds week in week out in the U23s - many of which probably won't play at a particularly high level in the game and some may even stop playing altogether in a few years time.

Equally what you've got to remember is that Tavares is 21 and as such considered one of the more senior players in the U23s with more experience at the level than many of his opposition, which undoubtedly will give him a slight edge. Which is why unless the player is 17/18 and scoring at a similar rate I don't particularly take much notice of their scoring record in the U23s.

If he's not going to play when we arguably have one fit striker who is run into the ground, we should have loaned him out to league 2/conference, anyone to see what he's got. At 21 for me, it's pointless him being here now just to secure an u23s title that, in my limlited understand, means near enough nothing other than pride.

Sure. Just bring proof of the U23's games you played and scored in.

So what you want is me to bring proof of scoring goals at a level we're not playing at, as justification that I might be good enough... because we won't know until we try?

Well, that I can manage, yep. Look forward to picking up my fat appearance fee, and hopefully reinvesting it in a huge batch of pies.

He might well feature in the coming weeks, that's something I can't really predict. But I suspect unless Waghorn/Gyokeres become injured between now and by the time that Godden returns from his recovery then evidence suggests he probably won't.

As you say he probably should've been loaned out to a NL/L2 side as he's been here a year now and is still plying his trade in the U23s - which I think if anything is regressing his prospects of a decent career.

I'd assume the logic with him and Reid is it's of more benefit keeping them around to try and coach the areas they're lacking into them, then send them off to do OK, but not really improve as we need them to.

Despite us being 15th in the table in the last 20 game form ? 12 points clear of relegation

So you're wrong aren't you ? There's 9 teams worse

Including West brom (must be a relegation squad )and Stoke who are on the same points

We're closer to the playoffs in the last 20 games( 10 points ) than we are from relegation (12 points )

I'd agree with you re Reid as the wing back role really needs coaching into him. But with Tavares I'm really not sure what their development strategy is with him. At his age he needs to be playing week in week out otherwise to put it bluntly he's got a very slim chance of making the step up to our first team.

Luke Tisdale and Robins have both reiterated that a key issue for Tavares is his build. Not really sure why that can't be addressed elsewhere whilst out on loan.

A loan spell at a lower league club is going to prove very little. I think our coaching staff has already made their assessment. Even if there was much chance of him going on loan to League Two and scoring 20 goals, you'd assume someone would have tried to take him by now, but there's been zero interest. He's here to make up the numbers and not much else.

Extrapolate that over a season and it’s 53 points so yeah it’s a relegation threatened season

Someone said the same to me a few years back and it made me look at the tiredness issue in a new light.

Gyokeres at 98% v 100% Aiden Flint is a bigger difference than Shmmee at 98% v 100% Sheafisgod.

the reasoning used is frustrating becuase he has the likes of Jones and Tavares on the bench presumably at 100% and not even giving them 10 minutes when Gyokeres is clearly shattered

Yes but those players are only 50% of the player that Gyro is. A tired Gyro is still a better option. The reality is we have a small budget and hence have a small squad.

What if forcing him through 2 games a week causes an injury and we have no Gyo at all?

There are staff to asses players and advise against playing players when too tired. It’s risk management isn’t it? We’re trying to win the game so need our best players on the pitch as much as possible.

No, my original point, to which you answered with a tangentially related question which I obviously can’t answer because I have no knowledge of what the conversation was between the staff which resulted in Dabo playing while injured.

The point there is that if the player himself knew he wasn’t fit, everyone could see he was struggling, then either the physios concluded the same and were ignored by management or they couldn’t tell he was injured.

To be honest both scenarios concern me but the former seems more probable because we were obviously that desperate not to put Reid on the pitch

And echoes what I have said in that if such measures result in an injury keeping the player out for a long time then it’s counterproductive.

Especially when it wasn’t even a league game.

Sure, but my original point was about Gyro in league games, who isn’t playing through an injury.

If you’re making a general point that Robins over used players and causes injuries then I think you need more examples and I would point you back to my original point about risk management, medical staff having an input and the fact we have a very thin squad.

Gyo has been mismanaged before after being played after being scythed down at Blackburn. He was clearly carrying something but was played anyway.

Take it to now, he isn’t injured but looks jaded and is being asked to lead the line all game long twice a week. If we continue with that he’s going to pick something up sooner rather than later.
