One thing I'm so happy about since robins came in is that he's given us an identity and a style of play. I can only think back to late 90s with Hucks and Dublin when we had that. We were known for our style. I remember when Robins came in (the second time) he said he wanted to model us on Bournemouth and play his way up the leagues. I thought at the time after Andy Thorne, "wishful thinking there pal" but he fkin did it. With no budget. The ethos has become engrained from youth level upwards and wow it shows. Im rarely impressed, with anything frankly, but to take on a job as difficult as us at the time and not only succeed, but to do it with style is nothing short of incredible.
I get what you are saying about Hamer but my view is that there are going to be players who have fairly long careers at Coventry City who will never play in Coventry and Hamer is just one of them. With regards to Robins apparently there can be no loyalty in football so I wouldn’t overthink it. He has tried the other grass and found it want greener so whilst the going is good I believe he will be sticking around.Huge MR fan. Only slight concern is that it has all been built around a couple of key individuals who have done a fantastic job in pulling everyone together. When we establish our own ground I will feel a lot more secure, as MR has achieved despite being hamstrung. If he were to be poached at any point, I would be slightly concerned at how quickly it would have the potential to unravel. Hopefully MR will be given tangible evidence of future plans and wants to be part of it. At that point, my concerns will lessen considerably, At some point we all know MR will leave/get sacked/be appointed US President, but if the ground bit has been resolved, I will be 'happy' for our future. Enjoying the current stuff enormously, though will be happier when we get back in. The idea of potentially having Hamer and never getting to see him play for us in the flesh is galling.
Hopefully the Premier League's obsession with foreign managers will mean that MR will be overlooked for the jobs in the league above. Both Robin's reaction and that of Boddy to Sunderland attempt to poach him bodes well for any future approach from clubs in this division or even the one above. It could be that Robins does become a bit of an Ainsworth or even a Wenger in terms of his longevity.Huge MR fan. The disturbing thing for me is that despite all of his achievements here, the promotions, the style of play, the successful recruitment and the fact that year on year we have improved our league position, he is still only a defeat away from being doubted by a sizable minority on here. If that is the case in the wider fan base, you can see how quickly people could turn on him.
I say after a defeat, the 'experts' will often be pointing out his failures after naming the team, not making a substitution, or making the substitution at the wrong time or with the wrong personnel. You only have to look at the negative comments he received during our 8 game unbeaten run to know that some are never happy. Perhaps for them, they won't appreciate how good he has been until he is gone. Or perhaps not as by then they will already be on his successor's back using their vast tactical knowledge and expertise, already pointing out where the new guy is failing.
