We have signed Guernsey FC striker Ross Allen for a nominal £20,000 fee

He scores ALOT but that is a seriously low level of football. Hard to see how he can do well in this league when not even a conference team has come in for him by the age of 27

We probably got him for a bargain, however he could be a decent gamble and you never know he might get a few at our level.
My concerns is that he is may well get home sick as a lot of decent players from a Channel Islands do not make it on mainland due to being so used to lifestyle on an Island.

We'd have been better of taking a chance on David Koladyski. He even lives halfway to suxfields from Coventry. They could have picked him up on route. No chance of home sickness.

I seem to recall the last player we had from Guernsey was Ron Farmer. If he does half as well as him it will be money well spent.

We still need a source?

We are all getting excited about a player but probably more excited as we have paid money for a player.

Maybe they will pay it into a third party escrow account first?

Yes but in his day you could not just pop on a plane to get home every few days.
I have dealt with the Channel Isles for years and they have had some good sportsmen and women but few actually take to a lifestyles off the Islands, unless they can get home every few days or so.
Also he is older than most of our team next season yet he will be a novice at the professional game.

Two Channel Islanders spring to my mind as really good players: Matt Le Tissier and Graeme Le Saux. If this Ross Allen is half as good as them, we're in for a treat as far as I'm concerned!

TBF it seems he has played on a bigger stage than Sixfields .
'We had a crowd of 4,290, which is huge for us. It was an amazing day, full of green all the way around the pitch. That definitely gets you buzzing.'

Jesus Christ if he's as good as Matt Le Tissier and undiscovered at 27 I'm actually Bruce Lee, loved Le Tiss but the Tosser always scored against us. As for Graham Le Saux is it me but did he always look like he was about to cry?

Guernsey fc.shocking. it brings it home how low we have fallen or should I say dragged down by idiotic owners.

Whilst I can certainly understand your sentiments, lets give him a chance first.

I seem to remember a lot of people laughing at the poor quality signing when we signed some unknown called Ndlovu for 10,000 back in Silletts days at the club, and he didn't do too bad did he ;)

Ah the days of top flight football with the likes of furlong and nuddy signed from non league and god knows where else, to think I'd actually consider Dave Rennie better than any of our current centre halfs.

Nuddy hat trick at Anfield???

Fact is, if he signs tomorrow, it will strengthen our squad

Well if just adding numbers is strengthening then we might as well take on any Tom dick or Harry from down Newbold Comyn, it only strengthens our squad if it actually improves it.

It's would improve it. We only have George Thomas to partner wilson. Allen would walk into our team at the mo, meaning he would improve it?

I don't see it, who's to say he's any better than George Thomas??

Look I'm with you I genuinely hope he turns out to be the next Ricky Lambert, Ian Wright, Pele but if no one else has touched him at 27he chances are he simply ain't good enough.

Actually scrap all that I'm on board he's clearly Pele and I'm of to get him name printed on last seasons Brazil Kit as a tribute.

We wouldn't be paying a transfer fee if the powers that be didn't think he could play

I never understand comments like this. Chris Smalling played at a similar level, Dwight Gayle was playing in divisions below three years ago. I appreciate this lad is older but there are good players in the lower leagues and I think it's encouraging to see the club looking around there. We've certainly tried signing strikers from bigger clubs for bigger money (Eastwood springs to mind) - it doesn't guarantee anything.

There's an argument to be made that because he's older, teams who would buy him at 21 higher up the pyramid write him off, so we actually have a chance of getting a player we otherwise wouldn't.

More surprised if we spend more than the price of a goalpost, mind you!

Why all the negativity? I always thought age 27 was at the peak of a players career? Could be a great signing for us.
