Did Fulham not make the Europa League final a few years back ?The people of Coventry are no different to any other city. So first off we must forget this arrogant assumption that we are somehow special.
I suspect there were some city fans in that class, but they were embarrassed to say. They probably get teased by the other kids for supporting a shite club.
You have to ask yourself what makes a young kid fall in love with a football club? Is it right to assume that kids will want to support the most depressing club in England?
We all know kids want to support a winning team.
Just look at the last time each club had a good season. A good season being: winning a trophy, finishing in the play offs or automatic promotion places, qualifying for Europe. I think this says it all:

Did Fulham not make the Europa League final a few years back ?
Chelsea were nobodies untill the money came in, in fact we played them in front of under 10k at SB during one season. Stoke could only muster 4-5k for many years in the lower leagues, Wigan,Hull,Fulham,QPR etc etc, all of these lost a fanbase for years because of no success but all won it back in a short space of time after promotion. We are all saying the same thing aren't we.
There is Beyond doubt the basis for a large partisan support for CCFC. However, the catalyst for that support needs to start from inside the club, that will not happen without some hope and direction from within. There needs to be investment, we need to be entertained and more than anything we need success. Us as just mere supporters can't provide these things we can only enjoy it when it does happen and hope that others will want to be part of it.
It will not happen while the present custodians are holding the reins.
my first match was the 1977-78 League Cup replay at HR v Liverpool. Circa 36K crowd packed in under the floodlights, deafening atmosphere, the smells of Bovril and cigars, City wearing IMHO their best kit ever, great players.............We lost that night but I was hooked !!
Compare that now to a young fans first game at the Ricoh this season, Appalling atmosphere, hardly any away fans, awful football, probably no City goals, negative vibe all round, dreadful kit, boos, jeers and moaning !
I remember going to the previous match at Anfield. We'd already beaten Spurs away 3-2, so we expected us to do well at Anfield. Unbelievable atmosphere! The City fans were mostly in the Kemlin Rd part of the ground (to the right of the famous Kop) and to say we outsang the Kop that night was an understatement! Ended up 2-2. Fantastic cold November night! Just really late getting back though, due to traffic, fog and (I think) a motorway accident.

Wallace almost won it with a cheeky back heel. Scouters were poor in defeat that night, especially in Stanley Park. Getting home in the fog was interesting.
Seem to remember being chased by scousers wielding the spiked poles from the park fence..... They were not happy....

Thanks for bringing up one of the top ten most memorable nights as a City fan - those were the days when we could take on arguably the best team in Europe and largely outplay them.
