I am one of those missing supporters at CCFC, not something I am proud of - I have supported the Sky Blues since I was born in Gulson Road, Coventry in 1956. I even travelled from where I live on the Sussex Coast to see them regularly up to and including this season.

I would just like to say THANKS..............

THANKS - to the Board members at CCFC when we were at Highfield Road during last few seasons there, that all creamed off the profits from the club, to such an extent that we had to sell Highfield Road to pay our debts and rent a ground from the Council instead

THANKS - to the Council for adding in the cost of clearing an Old Gasworks as part of the deal to build the stadium, so the stadium cost 3 times as much as it should (£113M)

THANKS - To the Rail companies and Council that backtracked on building a station at the Ricoh that would have made getting to the ground easier, especially from Mainline Stations at Coventry & Nuneaton.

THANKS - To the planners that agreed to build the ground on outskirts of the City and then failed to put in adequate travel arrangements so people could get to the ground (we just had to walk up the hill from Town at Highfield Road)

THANKS - In fact a special THANKS to the couple in Block28 (from London - Season Ticket Holders) that complained to stewards at Reading match in 2009 that I was standing, and shouting and therefore spoiling their entertainment, so I was forced to Sit Down & Shut Up (and of course thanks to the Stewards for escorting me out of the ground)

THANKS - to FIFA/UEFA/FA for introducing All-Seater Stadia so there is no atmosphere at matches anymore, and people cant just turn up and stand next to their Friends to discus the ins and outs of the match

THANKS - to Foreign Owners that couldnt give two-hoots for the Football Club or the Fans as long as they make £££££. The owners that dont understand that what made English football special was the loyalty between the Club and the Fans, where Board members generally were born in the City and supported the Club as well as owned it!

THANKS - to the away clubs that think they can charge away supporters £32.00 for a ticket to a 2nd Division match, and then stick them in the worst part of the ground (Ipswich, QPR, Leicester, Leeds etc)

THANKS - to SKY TV for dictating to all supporters when they can watch the match, not 3pm Saturdays anymore but Saturday Lunchtime /Evening, Sunday Lunchtime/Evening, Monday Evening etc, there was a time when 3pm Saturday was sacresanct it was time for all Dads to take their Sons to the match and meet up with the regulars to cheer the Mighty Sky Blues (Rattle/Rosettes at the ready)

THANKS - to the 500,000 residents of Coventry and surrounding area that cant be *rsed to get off there backsides to go and support the club so we only raise crowds of £14k, the 500,000 residents that have better things to do Shopping anyone?

Finally THANKS to BBC606 for taking off the BBC606 forum to save a few pennies so supporters now wont be talking to each other and getting the news as it happens but will have to wait for the great CCFC Public Relations Department to put something on the CCFC website if they deem the supporters worthy of receiving the information

RANT OVER - Anyway i have said my Thanks, it will be my last post, and I may well have attended my last ever Coventry City Match (Burnley Home - November 2010)

And for all those fans from other clubs looking at this post, ask yourself the same questions and if most of them apply to you also, could be your club next that goes to the Wall, and sson it wont be Administration that clubs face it will be Liquidation and the end of some clubs forever

Goodbye and good luck to all you Sky Blue Fans - you all deserve a Medal !!!

Half agree with him but half think it's people like him that have put clubs like Coventry in their position.
Let go, it's not 1966 anymore.

To be fair, if I drove from London and some fool stood up in front of me I would get him to sit down!

Annoys me people who stand up halfway down the stand, go to the back or by the scoreboard where everyone stands!

I think this has a lot of truth about, right now most City fans are pretty pissed off

Sorry i won't break it down but a lot of that is tosh!
If you are a true fan and there are 91 other clubs in the divisions...then you get the thrill of both the ups and downs.

All seater stadia are life savers no? Sky's money put the fizz into football no? Anyway i'm not going to break it down...some points are valid.

The Council bailed the club out big time re the Ricoh, In fact the reality is there were other much higher priorities... the Council certainly shouldnt have took on more cost for clearing the land.
The biggest thankyou should go to Bryan Richardson for earning a nice little retirement pot around getting the Ricoh (when it wasnt needed).

What a hypocrite!

Moans about people staying away and 14k crowds in THE SAME POST as telling us he no longer attends. Me thinks that some one wants his cake and to be able to eat it!

think you miss his point there, he travels (just stopped) all the way from sussex to watch the city, yet "the local fans" cant be bothered to go!!
I like the post as a whole though

I know what you mean mate (and him) but it's an odd post. Tbh as I've said before only HR will ever feel like home to me too (at least until we actually win something from the Ricoh I guess) but, almost all of his points are totally irrelevant to someone who is driving 150 miles to watch. In fact from outside not only is the Ricoh more accessible but has better parking too. So the only real substance is about fans not going. I agree with him we should be better supported and it's a shame that we're not but its been years since we were well supported, the ground is simply too big for us (as away supporters remind us every game) and him not attenjding and moaning is doing nobody including the club any good. Like most on here the club is in us, it will always be in us.

I think the reason people can't settle at the Ricih and still see Highfield Road as our spiritual home is because it's where we grew up loving the Sky Blues. Memories of standing on a box on the Kop, my first season ticket in West Stand at 11 years old and fighting sleep in the main stand. I think as the next generation get older the Ricoh will be more widely accepted, for instance my son is 13 and on his fourth season ticket, for most of his life the Ricoh is where he's grown to love the Sky Blues.

Rightly or wrongly the Ricoh is home now, Highfield Road is now a housing estate, the Butts is inadequate and talk of fan money building a new one is about as realistic as Fletchers 3 year plan. Time to move on and just realise our fond memories of HR should just remain that!!!
