Yesterday's kcic mailout -

2013 - the short version

CCFC's last game of 2012 was on 29 December with an incredible away following at MK Dons and, having been behind at half-time, a brilliant comeback by the Sky Blues to bag all three points. For most City fans 2013 ended on 30 November with an incredible away following at MK Dons and, having been behind at half-time, a brilliant comeback by the Sky Blues to bag all three points. In between some other stuff happened but as this is the season of goodwill to all, the less said about that the better (although kcic will be announcing a change of tactics after Christmas).

But as City fans, which means there's no plastics and no glory hunters, it's fingers crossed that 2014 sees us on the up and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all.

kcic will be taking a festive break but just one plug -

Let's try and do something positive - kcic day out at Coventry Sphinx on Saturday 28 December!

Coventry Sphinx v Alvechurch, 3pm Saturday 28 December 2013 (doesn't clash with anything CCFC related)
Easy to get to and free parking
Just a fiver to get in (£3 concessions)
Under 16s are free if they are with an adult which is excellent given all the concerns about the next generation of football fans in Coventry
Very nice clubhouse with bar.
For more details see
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/coventrysphinx/
Location/map are at http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/coventrysphinx/location/

So why not try it and at the very least we'll be giving a bit of a financial boost to a local team!

Support local football. I can't understand how anyone could argue against this. I hope there is a big attendance.

Absolutely right, the reason why most of the people on here support Coventry City FC is because it was our local team, it took the name from the place where a lot of us are from. It was the love that home matches was where we could meet locally and walk to the ground. It is about identity and being from Coventry (for me at least anyway) and if that team is not playing HOME matches in Coventry then I am going to struggle to support it. Otherwise, why don't we all support the likes of Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool, at least then we would have and see some good times on the pitch. I am now starting to think about supporting a local team like these just for the home fix and if this whole sorry saga doesn't sort itself out by the end of next season, It may well be full support for someone like Coventry Sphinx.

The Gent/Thai, zuni, not sure about waiting until the end of next season. If Sisu haven't come up with a definite site by the end of this season - that is a firm, bought for site, with planning permission that is the same distance that the Ricoh is from Broadgate, then it'll be hard thinking time for many long term CCFC fans, me included.
I'm not interested in Meriden, Birmingham airport area, in Leamington or Kenilworth or out towards Rugby, that isn't good enough. Not Coventry.
Think it would be a massive thing for thousands of City fans to turn out for this Sphinx game. Absolutely wonderful. A show of fan solidarity, a massive boost to Sphinx. It could set them up for some time.
Meanwhile I'm hoping plans are in place for a CONTINGENCY club in place for next season. NOTE, I said a CONTINGENCY club.

To be honest - I'm not interested in a 12,500 capacity ground either. It would exclude many, many fans, if we were to begin to climb back up. It's an insult to the football public of the area. Shows no understanding of the club, history, the massive potential just waiting to be built upon. Stuff it Sisu.

Spot on Spionkop. I think Sphinx ARE the contingency club. Let's give them our support and our cash starting Saturday and continue through to the end of the season. Am I right in saying they're just 4 leagues below the FL? Who knows where this could lead?

Get behind them and it rams the message even further down SISUs throats. Love it, absolutely love it.

So do I. Go and support the pub side and then leave this forum to people who care about one football club and one club only.

G-I think its a little disappointing when an opportunity for us to unite as presented by Michael seems to be hijacked with accusations by some of a derelection of duty from the club WE ALL adore- Coventry City Football Club.
I really don't think Michael started this thread as a proposal to start a new club in Coventry.. none of us want that, and personally I think it's too soon for that to be the way forward until such time as this debacle has run its course with no other option.
Please lets not turn this thread into yet another acrimonious debate.
I may well just go to Sphinx, it won't be because I want them to be my new CCFC- there is only one...it'll be because I want to watch some local football with my son over Christmas. If that pokes a conscience of some greater being then great-Personally I don't think it'll matter one jot if theres 2, 200 or 2000; SISU/ACL/CCC have not flinched yet have they?.

I quite fancy going, I have watched Sphinx often whilst my son played Midweek Midland Flood Lit for the youth and it is a decent standard, I think we should get behind it ,if only for this fixture, count me in.

Sounds like there's a few people up for this and the post by M&B reminds me that the Sphinx clubhouse indeed serves M&B including mild which these days is a rare delicacy

It pishes me off when City supporters believe that only people who live in the city are 'true' fans. Most fans who go to games don't only live in Cov but within Warwickdhire. So if you don't want to go to Sixfields go see Boro, Beduth, Leam, Warwick, Stratford, Rugby or many others that make up our footballing world.

Not going to knock anyone who choses to support other teams given what we have had to put up with but personally I just cannot do it, it wouldn't feel right. For me its city or nothing and sadly nothing is becoming a reality!! :(

Stu, you're not getting this at all! It's not about 'jumping ship or supporting other teams. Have you never watched a game whether live or on tv not involving City?

I am going "jump ship" and go to the sphinx game on the 28th. will be a nice change to watch some local football and have a laugh with fellow CCFC fans who just want to watch a bit of football in Coventry!

Will be good finally to meet you in person - and hopefully some others off here too - and I'm definitely up for a post-match pint in Sphinx's v nice clubhouse

I've been to the FA Cup games there, the second one in particular was ace. Turning the deficit round to win, ridiculous long-range goal and a round of handbags at the end. What a magical time.

I'm sure everyone has. Surely you may as well go and watch Birmingham or Villa though.

I just fail to see the point in watching a team just as they are in Coventry that no one is interested in. I am suspicious of an agenda as with your questionnaire which to me looked set up to get a mandate for a Pheonix club in Coventry.

What next - someone starting a thread on CCFC's fans forum to support Bedworth or Nuneaton? All seems odd to me.

You can't beat a good 'hidden agenda' post! Tomorrow is an opportunity to watch a game in Coventry (not Northampton, Birmingham or anywhere else) over the festive period, doesn't clash with anything ccfc related, is a chance for me, any maybe others, to meet up with people they would normally see at the Ricoh and if it bungs a few quid the way of a local team what's the problem?

plenty of Cov fans go and watch non league from time to time and there is nothing wrong in that. being from rugby i occasionally go and watch rugby town (quite a lot this season for some reason :thinking about: ) i go as a football fan, its not my 1st choice but it is a chance to go and enjoy football with friends, mostly the same friends i go to watch Cov with. i haven't jumped ship, its something I've always done and something i will always will do.

grow up and live with it, stop making a mountain out of a molehill just to have a dig at someone who doesn't share you're blind hatred of all thing ACL/CCC shaped.

tbf, it's very different saying 'come and watch this, doesn't compete with CCFC' to 'let's set up a CCFC rival'. One doesn't split a fanbase, just gives them an outlet to occupy themselves if there's nothing to do.

Get the concern about mooting a phoenix club, but isn't this somewhere we can all meet in the middle?

Ok, to bury the afc paranoia - the survey was interesting because it showed how little support there is for a new club and the reality is setting up a new club is a huge task which only the Trust could do.

There appears to be some paranoia about paranoia here...

Although the mailing list to discuss a new club was an interesting consequence for something with so little support...
