Potentially this is one hell of a good player, on loan with option to buy ? I’d sign him up now he will attract attention and he could be a very valuable one day.

We've got the option so no need to sign him now at all, especially given the reasonable chance we'll be relegated

Must admit I was very critical of him in a few earlier games but thought he was superb tonight.

Isn't it an obligation to buy?

Isn’t it if he hits a certain % of games ?

Would seem a bit of a strange thing to do (i.e. why would you limit the number of other loan players by loaning one you could buy? Why wouldn't you spend the money now even if the installments mean you don't necessarily pay now?).

Wonder whether it's something to do with the rules relating to players under 24 that are out of contract? Sheaf is out of contract with Arsenal at the end of this season

Robins comments only refer to 'certain criteria being met'. But given how these deals are usually structured, yes I presume that a permanent transfer is dependant on number of games played.

Played well tonight, looks like he’s settling in nicely now.
I’d still like to see Kelly in midfield with Hamer given a more attacking roll.

I wonder if he wants the chance to get out if we go down.

To be fair it's conditional on certain criteria being met. So, technically we're not completely bound to the purchase agreement.

I'm not entirely sure and I'll admit I can only speculate.

He may not have had the cash on hand to buy as the budget was drying up and a proportion of the Callum Wilson money was already dedicated to Walker signing. Perhaps the reason behind this was that the Walker instalments were far more favourable than Sheaf hence why a proportion of the money was used for the Walker deal rather than on Sheaf.

Or perhaps Arsenal may have felt more willing to loan Sheaf with an obligation to buy as it allowed them greater control over the agreed fee as well as any potential add-ons such as a sell on fee. Rather that than let a tribunal set out a compensation package.

Like I said I'm not sure but there undoubtably would've been reasoning behind it.

Shock horror, sound the klaxon - a decent article in the Telegraph!

Chris Badlan on "unnoticed" quality of Sky Blues' Ben Sheaf

The 22-year-old Arsenal loan signing has featured in every Championship game for the Sky Blues since joining in the summer
www.coventrytelegraph.net

Agree 100% with everything Badlan says here.

What he says about Sheaf's work going unnoticed is true but if one good thing has come from the ridiculous & unfair early criticism he got is that people are paying more attention to him now & slowly realising that actually he's invaluable & will be a huge asset.

Also explains a bit about the structure of the deal & why it took so long so let's not hold that against the boy anymore either eh?

Only if he smiles for every minute he is on the pitch for us, if he doesn't then I don't want him here

I hope Robins can conjure up a similar deal with Arsenal January they have some real good kids in thier reserve set up legacy of the Wenger years.

Most players would at any club. So dont try and draw any traits about the individual player.

almost guaranteed that he will gift the opposition with a goal scoring opportunity in every game he features. I had warmed to him but have changed my opinion from what I’ve seen during his recent performances.

Should never start ahead of a fit Liam Kelly.

It’s the fact that his teammates avoid passing to him if they have a choice between him and anyone else.

Watch closely in the second half (where I’ll probably get proven wrong )

He just doesn’t have any fight or heart. Bit of a wallflower. He should’ve been sprinting back for their open goal miss like Hyam did a few weeks ago when he clattered the post. He would’ve been close to being able to block it but just no urgency with the bloke
