“Clive Platt is back in the squad. He’s had two 90 minutes and a 60 but you have to remember he didn’t play a game in the pre-season which was unfortunate for him."
“It’s good to have Gary McSheffrey back because we have got competition for places and that’s probably why the standard has gone up in training as well. All of them are in my thoughts for Ipswich and it’s nice to have a squad to pick from.”
“The big thing is to maintain the standards we have set. We can’t guarantee results but what we can guarantee is a performance, so it’s important we maintain the standard of performance we have had recently and if we do that we will be fine.”
Never quite understood this competition for places malarkey myself.
just know that if I was a professional footballer playing for Coventry City or anyone else I would be giving 100% every game. Surely that's my job isn't it?
No but with more competition, you need to put in more of an effort to get a game, more effort generally means more pressure on the opposition if nothing else.
Whatever fans oppinion on Platt, its better he's in the fold, too many times under previous managers we've had players sidelined as they wer'nt signed by them and we don't have the resources to have any player cut adrift .Dunns distribution was different to murphy's against derby ,so offers us option the to be more direct and i personally thought Juke exploited this superbly.
agree wingy .... it is good to get nearly all our squad fit and available. However I would hate to think that Platt would be anything more than an impact sub, simply not good enough to be a starter
Sheffers is excellent at the tip of the diamond - it's perfect for his game as it utilizes his attacking strengths (movement and very good at winning free kicks/pens - not to mention a good finisher).
Better than Bell there certainly - but then Bell is better than Baker in the midfield role so if someone has to go it's Baker or Bigi.
Only thing is Sheffers isn't 100% match fit so I can see him coming from the bench.
