How did he lead the club on? Did we genuinely think he was going to turn down a £15 million move to a Premier League club?
No, but waiting until mid August because no club was interested until then isn’t the greatest look on him either.

To be clear you don’t need to convince me why their moves made sense to them, but the average fan doesn’t need an invitation to boo someone for leaving.

He got us the most money and told the club well in advance what his plans were. He is also a far better player than Hamer and COH.

There isn’t any heavy thinking required to work it out!
I find it odd that a player telling us he doesn’t want to be here anymore is now a display of honourable virtue (as if Hamer and O’Hare’s motivations weren’t also completely transparent, and were monetised by the club to the maximum extent possible). But again - however people want to rationalise it.

You’re saying fans are upset with him because he didn’t move until a club was actually interested in signing him?
That's exactly it isn't it? Gus and Vik both wanted to play at a higher level. Vik was good enough that he immediately got an offer to go, or already had something lined up before the end of the season, where Gus was left waiting as the offers weren't flooding in.

The longer that went on people started thinking he might end up staying. When he finally went the season had already started which gave people the idea that he'd had the club over and not left us time to get a replacement in.

Don't think it's anymore complicated than that.

Vik was always a mercenary. I never loved Vik like I did Gus. Even Viks song was a bit detached IMO. He didn’t have the same cult status as Hamer and O’Hare despite being the best of the three IMO.

It’s people telling themselves stories about good players moving to better teams for more money.
