Yes not sure I agree with an arrest for a distasteful picture .

And ofcourse it's up to Sheffield Wednesday to decide who does and doesn't get to go inside Hillsborough..

What ever happened to people just saying sorry and life going on

Social media happened.. people always get outraged and want massive punishment

it’s distasteful - I’m assuming Sheff Wed wouldn’t want to be associated with them fans. Which you don’t want a wide audience thinking. The bans I can understand.

So no benefit to people living in Coventry, Milton Keynes, Rugby - or Warwickshire for that matter. And what about the fares?

People in those places mentioned will be able to get on a train to London and Birmingham which will not be severely overcrowded.

Fares may be cheaper because of added competition.

Whilst we're all taking the moral highground, let's not forget how some of our own responded to Jimmy's in a box. Equally distasteful and not even a banning order let alone jail. I'd like to think these morons have learnt a huge lesson and others will see that actions have consequences, but jail is way too far. As I posted previously, a couple of days on a kids cancer ward would be far more appropriate imo.

Lots of money raised for the charity since too which hopefully helps the family that we're not all scumbags.

Don’t agree with the lad getting banned from watching Sheffield Wednesday all season - why reward this kind of sick behaviour?

I hope he’s jailed.
Sitting in a cell for 23 hours a day with a couple of leery lags and a bog for company might give him and others with similar mindsets a bit of time to reflect.
Using a six year old cancer victim as he did for those on here who can’t see why he’s been nicked ffs! take a look at yourselves.
Think what that youngsters family think.

Don’t be a prick, I’m certainly not advocating that, but prison for certain offences can almost be that and an offence like his couldn’t be worse with a prison full of dads and I include staff.
He has apparently pleaded guilty and sentencing put back to November 17th, he’s lucky I think he will escape jail now.
As for solitary being locked in your cell for 23 hours a day is common practice.

I don't think its worse than the Grenfel thing - that was probably worse in truth - also I guess one positive out of it

Sheffield Wednesday fans donate over Bradley Lowery 'mockery'

Two men are in custody after supporters appeared to taunt opposing fans with a picture of Bradley.

The Grenfell thing was the other thing that immediately came to my mind. An arrest in either case is ridiculous, it seems to be a case of the police will react depending on how much social media outrage it causes.

Best punishment would be to make them work for a couple of days with other cancer suffering kids. If they're not remorseful after that then there's no hope but imagine they'd be wailing in the first few minutes if they have any kind of humanity.

Upsetting people shouldn’t be a criminal offence IMO. If you want to set behaviour standards in your establishment that’s different.

Yeah I think so. I’ve gone backwards and forwards on this but I think ultimately sticks and stones and all that, and hurt is in the eye of the beholder so I’m not sure it can be well legislated.

Harrassment is something slightly different in its persistence and covers the most egregious stuff. Most punishment should be civil not criminal I think if you can prove damage or social through just people thinking you’re a c**t.

Well they are clearly illegal under criminal law - this isn't - its mind numbingly dumb and unexplainable but it is not a crime

I think so. Like I say unless it goes to harrassment, or threat of violence is implied in some way. But ultimately just being mean (horrible simplification I know, but where’s the line?) IMO shouldn’t be criminalised. I could be more offended by something than someone else is, if offence is the crime then why not my offence? And these things are so hard to define. We all agree on something like monkey emojis but the sort of stuff the Spectator or Breitbart put out means you invariably stray into over policing to try and stop the next more subtle layer.

I dunno. Like I say it’s something I’ve gone back and forth on. I’m generally a pretty free speech absolutionist, but the internet does test that

Because he was charged with a outdated catch all offence that can be applied to anything Rupert, it's wrong and it's dangerous

I think ultimately when people cheer people getting arrested for 'causing offence' it really is a case of be careful what you wish for.

I wasn't referring to the Sheffield Wednesday thing. I was just contending Shmmeee's view that any offensive comment shouldn't be a crime.

To be clear, in a move designed to annoy all sides of the debate. I do actually support private entities like Twitter and YouTube (and football clubs) being able to set terms of service that include limiting certain speech.

Seems to me like the police are using this to make an example. There's been a lot of concerns in the past year or so about the mocking of tragedy in football. There's a lot of concerns about Manchester United and Liverpool fans mocking club tragedies. Similar with the Leeds.
