Can’t begin to understand why professionals who are trained to do good could have allowed this to happen

My wife gave birth at Princess Royal Telford in late 2019. She went into labour at 8am, by around midnight it was clear nothing was happening any time soon. She was exhausted, in a great deal of pain (and had a past history of having pain related fits) and sporadically a doctor would pop in and despite her requesting a C section she was told to wait another hour. This happened a number of times until 5am when the doctor finally against his wishes had to perform a C section. He was very insistent how dangerous it was and how he did not think it in my wife's best interests. Our baby had managed to get her umbilical chord wrapped around her head and a traditional birth would have been very dangerous.
The Doctor was very poor and showed no interest in my wife's feelings whatsoever. Had he not relented we may well have been another number to add to the terrible statistics. The midwife (who clearly thought the doctor should have acted much sooner, but presumably didn't want to speak up in his presence as she would get in trouble) and all other staff we encountered were absolutely wonderful.

Makes me so cross but more sad. Im so sorry you all went through that
It's also worth pointing out that this scandal was front page news in the local paper back at this time, so the doctors attitude was even more astounding. The other staff I spoke to were very upset that they were carrying the can for the mistakes and wrong protocols followed by others.

My experience was we knew the consultant personally enough for him to pop in at midnight to deliver our first baby as there had been an emergency Caesarian with our first. Out third was induced and when induced the chord was strangling the baby so they needed to whip it out, I’m sure he treated us as family and he was brilliant with everyone but all of our pregnancies could have been a disaster if the correct decisions weren’t taken. Bless you
It's heartbreaking stuff, can't imagine losing a baby in any circumstances but especially due to negligence.
My daughter was born a couple of years ago at UCHW and all the staff there were absolutely brilliant.
The midwife pulled the emergency button at one point and 7 or 8 doctors rushed into the room within seconds. It was terrifying, but they were brilliant.
Thankfully it was a case of better safe than sorry and a bit of a false alarm, and my little girl was fine.
