I think they still play 'chase the witch' whenever there's a crop fail in Bulkington.

Weird thread. People have seemingly decided it is going to fail, with zero knowledge of revenues, overheads or having seen the business plan.

I've been critical of the beer, but that's fixable. They can also adjust pricing. I also find it odd that people still think students only drink in dingy basements at 50p a pint. They'll promote to students and will get a lot in.

This place won't need to be packed every night to succeed. The function room will bring in most revenue anyway.

For a man with a comedic name, you're actually a bit of a nause.
The comment regarding students in a basement was a joke, calm down..
In terms of business overheads etc, there is never any customers. Not rocket science. Stop taking things so seriously.

What, you think I took the dingy basement comment literally?

Why are you so defensive? It's merely a discussion about the SBT and whether it's viable. Nobody was getting worked up until you came along telling people to calm down, wtf is that all about?

Typical moaning going on.

Give it time. Beer is comparable prices to everywhere in town now. In fact it's cheaper than all the new bars that have opened up.

It's branded for Coventry fans. It's not going to be busy during the week. It will benefit from winter period when people don't want to stand outside in beer gardens.

Beer is poor like everywhere at the moment, we all know the Brexit issues. Even Spoons has almost no choices now.

Coach is great and I'm sure later on in the season they may end up taking more than the 1/2 they are currently.

The one thing they need to change ASAP is the shuttle. They have to make it return. Seems absolutely absurd to charge £9 for a single journey and a pint. Surely getting people back to the Tavern after the game to have one before going home makes more sense?! I'd go before matches if I knew I could get a return for £9.

End of the day, most places are quieter than pre-covid.

You are aware that most of the beers they promote are their own brews? There’s not really any excuse for a lack of choice. The hops and wheat are widely available and not subject to the same sort of transport issues that other businesses are encountering. It’s not the same as ‘Spoons struggling with Coors/Carling etc. because of a shortage of drivers.

Went to the Dhillons by the ground for the first time on Saturday and thought it was great, cant help but think that the 2 places are just competing with each other a bit, no idea how busy the tavern was on Saturday but i'd be surprised/impressed if it was half as busy as the Dhillons.

The "Tavern" should have been the site by the ground.

Not going to complain about prices as you pay the same pretty much everywhere now

With the team performing so well, looks like the usual moaning has turned to the SBT in the short term.

We are 3 home league games into the new season. There’s some small changes that can and will be made in the upcoming months, that’s just part of launching a new business.

You always know people are clueless when they quote the 4Ps. If the bar was at say Rowley’s green, it would still struggle to attract anyone other than on a matchday. So that point is utterly useless. The town lacks a sports bar and there were plenty of flyers and adverts about the place on Saturday promoting thehave all the sports channels and will be showing Premier League games too.

People lauded the Roost and how great it was and if only we had similar in Coventry. Someone has took the gamble to launch a Cov pub, and people are moaning that it’s too CCFC branded?

I think they are ran by the same people, or they are working together. I’m sure the coach from the tavern drops you at Dillons and you get a pint with the coach ticket (for £9)

Don't think anyones moaning its too CCFC branded just that that makes it very niche and is probably at odds with its goal of being an all round sports bar.

I want it to iron out its issues because I want it to survive and not be a two minute wonder.
Been in 3 times, two occasions were non match days and I like the place but itsnot perfect.

City Centre, or anywhere in the city, has lacked a decent sports bar for as long as I can remember. They will need to be sure the marketing shows people its not just a beer before the match type place but looking at how their business in general has gone the last few years I'm sure they've got that in hand.

Went to find it after the game Saturday but clearly went down the wrong road! - ended up crossing the canal and coming out by the windmill on Longford Rd.
Bus back into town and the Gatehouse for a couple.

The issue with the beer isn't their own, they haven't been running the usual lagers.

For anywhere looking for somewhere to watch the boxing (Anthony Joshua vs Usyk) on Saturday evening, that won’t be full of pretend gangsters, SBT is showing it and all the undercards.
I am still in isolation with Covid so will be another Saturday stuck in watching tele for me.

Was in there one night this week. Looks fantastic and will be going in there more often now. Be their Friday night as well.

we should be really proud of the gaff instead of knocking the place. Plenty of choice of lagers and ale and it’s clean, good service, cheap and better than 90% of the bars in this city.

get up their and get behind the place.

I would agree but also why I re-commented was because there’s a lack of places to watch PPV Boxing in town that aren’t full of aggressive scumbags who think they have to look for a fight because there’s boxing on. Hopefully SBT will offer somewhere for normal people to watch Joshua.

I’m confident the scumbags won’t immediately associate the Sky Blue Tavern off the ring road as being somewhere that will be showing the Boxing and will head to Jumping Jaks, Impulse or wherever else they usually go.

I think that would be for a psychologist to answer but it’s country wide and happens everywhere. I guess as Boxing is an aggressive sport, it activates that mindset in some people and they want to copy it.

Thankfully most people understand that boxing is a match fighting sport (with skill, training & match setting) and watching or enjoying it doesn’t mean we have to start fights outside a chip shop!
