Some things that you just can't get along with (not including women!) (1 Viewer)

Having had one of those mornings, I wanted to vent my spleen on my relationship with vacuum cleaners (Hill83 - please don't do the obvious!) Whether I buy a Dyson, G Tech Air Ram, whatever, I always seem to end up with a dud (operator error, I know). I have just been round to borrow my father in law's old Electrolux (must be 30-40 years old) and it worked like a dream, but I just know if I bought an older basic model - it would fail me once I owned it. Anybody else have a certain type of thing that they just can't get on with? Rant over

They say "buy cheap, buy twice" but I love a bargain! I scour online and in shops to find the best value, particularly on high spend electrical items, but even general shopping I'm a sucker on the 3 for 2. I estimate I've saved us thousands over the years, but the Mrs always harps on about the time I bought a tv from a pikey for £200 and it had a cracked screen. You'd think I made a whole string of bad purchases all the time, but I know she's waiting for me to cock up again!

Anything DIY related. I look up how to do something, think it doesn't look too hard, destroy the house and have to get someone in to fix it.

Fluorescent light tubes. I hate them. They always flicker for me. Hardly ever get a steady light. Buy brand new ones, install them and they flicker. They only come on steady at random. Worst invention ever! Give me incandescent bulbs any day.
Will probably convert all my fluorescents to LED soon but I have a sneaky suspicion that LEDs will have some hidden drawback that will bite me in future.

Same. Haven't ever manged to put up a straight shelf yet.

Anyone comes round and I make out it's art and deliberate.

My two worst subjects at school were woodwork and metalwork. Even got threatened with the cane for being so crap.

I am really, really artistic, but it is mainly my mind and imagination and not stuff with my hands.

I'm crap at DIY.

Oh and cars. Absolutely useless past putting some oil in.

Basically, anything manly.

I can bake you a mean Victoria sponge though and write a song about you.

Central heating boilers

First house, it was a back boiler behind the gas fire. The cast block casing cracked and pissed water into the lounge. Was told that was extremely rare.

2nd house. Boiler in the kitchen. Came back from holiday and that one had cracked and filled the kitchen up with water. Different plumber “that’s extremely rare”...

3rd house. Same thing. Flooded the utility room. plumber said that’s extremely rare, I said, no, it’s really not.

Never known anyone else who had that happen. Unless you lot can tell me differently?

You should have asked them to use a cane that you made, it might have broken.

Self Assembly furniture! I bloody HATE it! Recently bought a nice looking book-case from Argos. Only £65 or so. It arrived as a flat pack (which I hadn't realised! Should have read the small print!) Anyways, I had a go. Loads of bits missing, wrong pieces sent and the wood grain pattern went the wrong way! (there were 3 panels for the back. 2 patterns ran vertically and the 3rd ran horizontally!) I ended up going to the local B&Q to buy bits for it and then just lost my rag, phoned Argos and told them to collect the heap of shit they had sent. They did so without argument. And returned my money. I ended up buying a lovely book-case from a company in Hull. It cost £245 but it was delivered free and ready made!
I will NEVER buy flat-pack crap again!

We had a science teacher who used to throw the blackboard rubber (or whatever it was called - half of it was wood) at pupils he didn't think were paying attention. That was at a grammar school, where we generally behaved!
