I knew they were a few weeks ago, I think there is nothing but the home town link!

I think if a 1.5mill plus add ons gets offered he will be gone....

Sisu are going to be really unpopular if this happens ! Although it might give Freddy a chance to shine !

1.5 million didn't AT say 3 million? I don't think anything will happen to this and agree with the home town link!

Southampton do have money to spend, lets not kid ourselves, if they offer anything in the region of 1.5mill he'll be gone.

SISU will sell every half decent player we have at the first opportunity.

God we need this takeover to happen - and if it does it needs to be SOON.

In my eyes, this is a non-story until an actual offer is made. Any team can be "after" any player, at any time...but if said player is currently under contract then too bad! A similar rumour could essential be started regarding every single player in Football...there is always some other club that is interested in everyone!

This story has been doing the rounds for at least a fortnight. We will be lucky to get £1 million for him, may be a shade more, although one story claims the deal is £700,000.

Juke is a saleable asset, we are in debt, losing money - so we should expect the worst.

Normally, when the media pick up on the story it is because contact between the 2 clubs has started already.

Old news, and hopefully it stays that way. S'ton are in the market and willing to pay money thought it would appear as they've just signed Jack Cork from Chelsea!

Heres hoping Delieu doesnt get on with anyone there after his unsuccessful spell as Chairman and he tells em to do one if they try and bid!!

I think selling Lukas would be an incredibly stupid move by the club and wouldn't do well for relations between club and fans. I think until they make an offer it's just yet another rumour making the rounds.

Whatever they got for him (if it ever happened), the fee wouldn't compensate for the results if he stayed here. Haven't they learned from past "selling mistakes"? Without Juke the strikeforce is reduced, therefore less goals per game, more losses, lower league position, fewer bums on seats.... etc etc. Is that all worth the paltry fee? I think not. Think about the near future SISU!! Keeping Juke could mean the difference in achieving a decent position in the league! It's pure business sense! Let's stop this bloody culture of being a selling club!!!

The Juke to Southampton rumours are becoming stronger everyday. I think it is a realistic possibility he could be sold and replaced by a free agent or a league 1/2 player

How can people be saying SISU are going to sell him etc etc were doomed when he has not been sold, and as far as we know no offer may have been made for him.
Anyone can start rumours etc etc it depends weather they are believed or not.
As far as juke goes last year he was not upto scratch can not play for 90 mins etc and now people are saying he is our saviour and we are finished without him.
Some fans are such doom and gloom merchants that they must thrive on any bad news weather it be fact or fiction.

all i see is players going out and none really coming in if he goes then what hopefully he wont.

I am not one of your doom and gloom merchants. I've supported City since 1963 through all the good times as well as the bad. I am being REALISTIC if the Juke is sold. I agree that a few months ago he was just one of the team, but then when all that crap kicked off with Marlon "Turncoat" King, we HAD to look at what we have left and Juke is the best of the bunch as far as strikers go (McSheffery could come in there as well). So if we lose him who do we replace him with? We would only spend out on a League One or League Two striker with no prospects of a decent league run or finishing position. As I said in my earlier post, IT MAKES MONETRY AND FOOTBALL SENSE TO KEEP HIM!! I just hope it IS all stupid rumours!

Honestly this was not a go at you.
It is just I am sick of all the doom and gloom on here.
As you know we have been through worse than this and still go on.
And yes monetery sense wise keep him, as we all know we will not get anywhere if we keep selling any half decent player we have left at the club.
But some are getting to the brink of crazyness here with it all (not you as having read a lot of your posts houchen you do make sense), but lets try and get somethings into perspective here.
No-one has bid for him (yet) so he is not going anywhere, and if he does go then so be it, we have been here before as a club and will do again and again and again (the team that is, the rest of it always changes at some point in our life time, there is nothing we can do about that it is what it is)
I understand the fanatasism of some as I used to be fanatical some 30 years ago but there are more important things in life and people getting carried away with it all, is just madness.
We will sign who we do and we will sell who we do but at the end of the day CCFC will continue and whatever division that is so be it.
Although i now live in spalding no matter where CCFC go or end up so what I am CCFC supporter through and through and proud of being a coventrian.
At the end of the day if a player gets sold and undoubtetly they will at some time, then they will always be replaced by someone and then one day they will be sold.
We have no billionaire waiting to take us over (not that I know about) as we are Coventry and things like that happen to other teams not us.
I am not going to say let's get behind the team and get the Ricoh rocking and all that (makes me want to through up if I am honest about it) but support CCFC in whatever way you do and what ever happens happens, things always move on, more so in football.

We're not gloom and doom merchants. We just aint happy that SISU promised the same budget as last summer. That clearly aint the case, and worse, their appears to be a possible fire sale about to happen. At the very least, our only decent remaining forward is being constantly linked with a move. Given we've already taken more than enough lies, this is hardly ideal.

Ok it may not be ideal whats happening, but does anyone really know whats going on behind the scenes!!
For all you all know there maybe signings around the corner, what would happen IF the bealzobobs that are SISU suddenly came up with the goods, what then.
All I am saying is, is lets just wait and see what happens and what will be will be before the forum turns into a morbid place to come and visit.
I may not post much but have been visiting this site for some time and it used to be a place where things were discussed but now, its getting like the CET forum where only the people who posted a lot are really allowed an opinion this is a general view of the whole forum and not a particular person/persons..

Point taken ICHAN and fair comment.

It is fair comment, and I'm usually as positive in general. I defend the players a lot, love Thorny as a manager, and hate people who boo the side on a Saturday and pick on the youngsters in particular. So I'll justify my attitude.

We're not talking about anything behind the scenes, just the reality of what has happened-and what we fear, given previous trends and evidence, will happen next.

Long term, the total inability to renew contracts on time has massively undermined the club both on the pitch and off it. Everyone knows how the Bosman ruling works-apart from SISU. We have failed to protect the value of the business' most important assets, ie the players, and many have been lost for nothing or sold for less than their potential value. I can't be the only one already anticipating Cranie, Bell, McSheffrey and Clingan leaving on frees next summer, and even Freddy will reject new terms and go somewhere better if AT somehow turns his City career around.

I was furious at Xmas because we hawked Thomas out on loan for money just as he was needed in the side. Ranson was outvoted by SISU on the board. We gave Doyle away to get him of the wage bill when Carsley and Clingan were crocked-the excuse being "Carsley will be back soon". He never played for us again. The big casualty was Boothroyd, which as we know now was for the best. But he was constantly refused even a Premier youngster loan to replace the departed players, biting his tounge in interviews to protect the board. We were sinking like a stone, and without miracle man Thorn taking over we would have been relegated. By replacing Carsley, Sammy, Doyle and Thomas, that situation could have been averted. Throughout this period, there was ZERO communication from the owners or board. If they'd said-"we're broke, we can't afford to strengthen, please get behind the side", I could have coped better. But they didn't.

Then of course there was the new board, Ransons departure and comments, the near administration, the emergence of the embargo and the mortgaging of Ryton. After a difficult transition period loaded with spin galore, I actually started to believe the hype of the new board. I like the new kit. Paul Clouting seems a reasonable footbal business brain and talks lots of common sense. Brody, bar the odd bit lost in translation, was starting to win me over with his New Openness. We'd be replacing King with a similarly high profile forward (-meaning for scoring goals, not the other stuff!) and we were going to hand AT the same budget this team that Boothroyd had. Wow, what could a manager like Thorny do with that? So, we've freed up the (not insignificant) wages of King, Doyle, Osbourne, Ireland, Quirke, Gunnarson, Westwood, Carsley and McIndoe. With that in mind, we could pool the wages from some into a few better players...should see us add 4-6 quality signings. Ideally some Danny Green-type bargains from the lower leagues with AT's vision. Awesome stuff. Roll on new season!

Now it seems that wasn't quite the case. After a bright new openness, we've descended into the foggy silence again. So we look at the reality-Westwood, Quirke and Ireland replaced adequately, hopefully, maybe lost a bit of quality, but probably with a slight saving for wages on 'keepers we had before. No-one else incoming, or even looking likely soon. I can imagine Brody thinking "mmm, well you can't play without a goalkeeper, he's like your Catcher or Netminder. So we need a couple of them.."

Not only that, but the only tabloid gossip is concerning players leaving, not arriving. OK maybe the deals are getting done in secret-but we all knew that Westwood, Clingan, Dann, Fox, Murphy, Dunn and countless others were coming due to such sources. Threre's no smoke without fire. So when I hear about Turner and Juke being hawked around, yeah, I panic-'cos if they go too, I don't see us replacing them. Having paid my season ticket money out on previous occaisions only to end up watching a different team to that originally advertised, yeah, it really grinds my gears!


The decent players who could have matched that Brody idea of a replcement "franchise" player have gone elsewhere, AT admitting "they're out of our reach". So why did they get fans hopes up, then? By saying we'd get a proper striker, and by saying we'd give AT the same budget as Aidy?

a) Because they're downscaling outgoings (and their short-term losses) in anticipation of the takeover. OR
b) This is the reality, but just like with the Fox/Dann sales, they wanted to get season tickets sold first. Now they can start to make noises about not having the money and needing to cut our cloth. Which, again, is fine-BUT BLOODY SAY IT FIRST, NOT AFTER MAKING IDLE PROMISES!!!

I could add my concern about the shunting aside of Uncle Joe-his tone seemed to belie grave concern. He spoke about his only interest being the best of Coventry City Football Club and it's supporters. It implied that a bid that should be accepted probably won't be, as SISU will not simply accept that they aint too good at this and get out of town-but instead hang on for a deal that will never come that sees them walk away with a profit. I bet the witch with the steel balls is gonna get us relegated with her stubbornness! The longterm hope is to make money from the arena, and in the meantime just cut every single cost possible at the club until it isn't making a loss. Which will be a long and painfull journey probably eventually ending in the lower reaches of League 1, if we are lucky.

Who knows whats going on?
I agree something smells of rotten eggs with SISU, however at this point no one else has been sold YET.
I have no idea how they work and if they did actually offer new contracts to the players that have gone (I believe they did otherwise AT would not have said anything about it).
What they offered is only speculation and hearsay, but obviously not good enough, or as the case may be the players were happy with the offers that were put to them (bar westwood who made it clear he was not going to re-sign) but the leachs that are agents turned there heads.
As for anymore players going we are all aware that SISU need to speculate to accumulate but for some reason as far as everyone is aware they are not.
Now is this because:
A) Skint.
B) Want out and there is a possible takeover and that is why AT is not getting any money.
C) They are waiting for some investers to sign on the dotted line and so are waiting for that before releasing any money.
D) They need to sell (if indeed they are) any saleable player that we have to keep afloat or until B or C happen's.

I also feel that this openess with the fans was always going to lead to trouble and I feel that they were a bit naive in the matter (ala King) to say he was staying etc etc and then to say we were buying a new "Franchise Player" was a riduculous statement to make, How could we CCFC get a so called "franchise player" which to me is a beckham type player where money is generated in vast quantities because of who he is.
I understand people who have bought season tickets because of what has been said and are angry but this happens year in year out at Cov but until there is a new investor or a takeover then I feel players will be sold to keep the club going.
Harsh but unfortunatly I think that is what is going to happen.

Agreed, ICHAN-that does seem to be the cycle we're in. I just don't want them to say things they don't mean, and I'm presently of the view they have done yet again. I would probably have renewed anyway, but it leaves a sour taste that they spun it the way they did. Just tell us Kings' replacement is Jeffers, and I'll get on with supporting them!
