SP hoping for clarity on CCFC's future home (1 Viewer)

A year after Coventry City walked away from the Ricoh Arena, manager Steven Pressley is hoping that the Sky Blues will soon have some clarity about their future home.

Sunday marks the first anniversary of City’s last match at the £113million stadium – a 1-0 defeat against Leyton Orient in front of a crowd of 11,234 – and Pressley admits that the decision to ground-share at Northampton has left a cloud hanging over the club and is hampering his efforts to bring in new players.

The increasingly bitter row between club owners Sisu, who say they are pushing ahead with plans to build a new ground, and former landlords ACL faces a crucial legal challenge in June when a judicial review will rule whether Coventry Council’s £14million loan to the stadium operators amounted to illegal state aid.

“Everybody’s aware of the court case which will have a big influence as to where we are and how we move forward,” said Pressley, “so the summer months are going to be critical.

“Once we get through this period hopefully there can be a clear vision for this club – that’s what we’re all desperate for because there have been too many clouds hanging over us for the past couple of years.

"Hopefully the court case will clear those clouds and allows us a clear strategy to really push this club forward. You can deal with certainties but just now there’s an uncertainty about the stadium.”

Pressley has been at pains to avoid being drawn into the off-field dispute but, asked if he could see City returning to the Rioch, he said: “In the right circumstances of course – you never rule anything out.

“There’s no doubt that our infrastructure – the training base and the Ricoh Arena – have been a big draw to a player coming to the club to play in League One and when you’ve not got the Ricoh it will affect that.

“We’ve had to get used to playing at Northampton and they couldn’t have been more accommodating in all aspects – the groundsmen, the stewards, everybody.

"They’ve been terrific and we’re very grateful to them but there’s no doubt that it’s an absolute necessity for this club to have its own stadium, whether we return to the Ricoh or build our own – that might take several years.”

The flat atmosphere at Sixfields compared to that of even a third-full Ricoh has been evident all season and particularly so as the side have struggled for results over the past couple of months.

But Pressley – who has played in front of a 60,000 Old Firm crowd and a few hundred fans at Scottish outposts - insisted: “You can never use it an excuse. When you go and play in a stadium with a good atmosphere motivation is very easy – it creates a greater intensity and there’s no doubt it can help the game itself.

“But when you’re playing in a stadium with only 1,600 supporters players deserve credit for self-motivation and I’m so proud of the way they have gone about things – they’ve been a credit to themselves.”

There really shouldn't be. SISU have said they have moved on from the Ricoh and plans are underway to build a new one once they acquire land. Why is SP uncertain about that ?

He also said players don't want to come and play at sixfields and he is being hampered.
Maybe he is paving the way for his exit ?

I agree I thought they had moved on and had plans drawn up for their new stadium and had even talked about the colour of the seats in the new one and probably other important things like the make and colour of the toilet paper.

maybe he need to have a word with the owners, which he has an excellent relationship. Perhaps he could get involved in the stadium forum.

It is slightly worrying that SP doesnt appear to know what the owners of the club are doing

RFC, can you shed any light as to why SP doesnt know this ?

John, grow up for once.

No one wants to be there, so for f*cks sake get it into your head.

So why go ?
And don't say for SP and the boys because they don't seem to appreciate your little effort and they don't want to be their !!!

I dont, but as we live in a free country people (other fans) can do what they want. The fans didnt move us there did they.

*** Edit - Fuck me John so just because I dont take your immature stance on the issue, I must go....theres no hope with you is there. I dont go, read my posts. :facepalm:

AARRRRGGGHHH!!!!! I'VE HAD ENOUGH!

They're = They are
Their = a person
There = a place

It's really easy to remember.

If it's got "I" in it, it's a person.
If it's got "here" in it, it's a place.
If it's got 're in it it's They Are (I don't have one for that :D)

It reads to me that the actions of the owners have harmed our competitive ability as much as any points deduction .Have said many times It should be the focus of any protest/action that we highlight the effect on the teams competitive success more than our personal grievances.

I think SP knows more than he says he does, he just keeps it well hidden. If SISU/OEG or who ever they want to call themselves loose the JD then as they say in the cartoons "thats all folks". They will not carry on funding the club, its a bottomless pit with out the revenue that 12500 home fans bring. I can only see them liquidating as the club isnt worth a bean, its not about whos right and whos wrong, business is a dirty game most of the time and their is always a looser, SISU, ACL, and the council are all as culpable. I just want my club back in Cov with SP as the manager please. PUSB NOPM.

I think you may be right. Would anyone want to have our owners as employers? The one thing anybody wants from their employer is honesty, something that our Christian owner seems to have in short supply.

While It may paint the club as a basket case ,everyone gets paid ,that Is the primary concern to most.

Fair point - nevertheless I think honesty is a currency in itself.

You'd like that wouldn't you? Go on admit it, you would.

I can just imagine the smile on your cherubic little face as you blamed SP's exit on anyone who's been to Sixfields.

Not really, I like SP but I understand that obviously he will be a casualty at some point because of Sisu's actions. Along with any gems we bring through the academy !!

They get paid now but at what cost in the future ?
The debt and interest will be rising daily at sixfields, which could further hamper ccfc for decades.

Grendel think that paragraph where he states it that playing at the Ricoh is a draw when trying to sign a player, may have been written just for you.....

If no ccfc fans turned up to sixfields we would back at the Ricoh within weeks !!
Doubt it, the team would just play in a ground with only visiting support.

Could anyone really blame him if he went?
Saying that he must of known the clusterfuck of a situation he was getting himself into when he signed.

There should always be an I in it :thinking about:

And back many years when I studied English....when you join two words together....they are.......you put a comma where two words are joined together and have taken out any letters. So they are becomes they're ;) Don't know how you could get their or there from the words they are...and did you see the first word in this sentence? Do and not put together. The comma is put in the middle of the second joined word as the o is missing.......don't ;)

Just wish I could remember all my kids names as easily.

It's not a comma, it's an apostrophe ;)
