Money has changed the whole dynamics of football its not a sport no more just money grabbing and commercialized wankers ruin the spirit of the game

The 15 /20 year period between sort of 88 and 2008 , European football was peak .. where teams all over the continent had world class players and the matches were genuinley exciting to watch.

Watching AC Milan be controlled totally at home by a second string Liverpool is deeply worrying for the state of Italian football ...

Drop off has been massive, all about the £ now.
Tbf to Milan they are without a lot of players tonight too.

Does make me laugh that Klopp has already started the complaints about too many games at this time of year yet starts Mané & Salah in every single meaningless game like this one.

You get a lot of money for winning a group game in the UCL. £2m or so… so for Liverpool it’s always been a cash cow.

It wasn’t a meaningless fixture either. Had Milan secured a draw, they would’ve went through to the Europa League.

Having watched the game in person, it was a fantastic atmosphere. However, Milan really didn’t have much considering Liverpool took all their attacking players off.

What was a very disappointing game was the Juve v Malmö game. That’s 3-4 hours and 68 EUR I’ll never get back. The atmosphere wasn’t there, c.400 could be heard loudest and Juve lacked any cutting edge. Frankly, I was bored.

The Prem teams are undoubtedly the strongest and generally best managed compared to their European counterparts. It wouldn’t surprise me to see an all English semi-final again assuming they don’t meet beforehand.

The premier money has just moved the success in the 80’s and 90’s and early this century first the Italian clubs had all the money and won things then the Spanish. Now the English league is the richest they are dominating. I find it hilarious that the Barcelona team last night would struggle in the premier league yet they are still paying massive wages to a bunch of dead legs.

I think the problem is , is that even in the 80s and 90s and 00s , there were many other good sides in Europe from different leagues atleast competing ..

Feels like the other European leagues are in a bad state right now and their powerhouse teams are worse than ever

There were other winners during that time but the money and prestige was still Italy and Spain mainly. Now the champions league winner can only come from the max of four nations England France Spain and Italy probably in that order, but uefa wanted all about money and that’s what they have got.

I agree with you mate, I don't think it's just the money, although the top players did used to be spread around nicely rather than collected like football stickers by 3 or 4 clubs.. the general standard of player is just way down imo, I'm not sure why.

It's the way they are brought through I believe .. from a young age taught to play a certain way , like racehorses today ain't they .
Defenders that can't defend mostly , want them to be ball players , probably why scoring records are being broken so regularly , I mean Harry maguire and John stones wouldn't be playing at top sides 15 years ago as their defending abilities are below that of the previous generation .. Players forced to rigidly stick to positions , lack of freedom etc .

Football is very samey now all over

Sure but really that's chicken feed to a club like Liverpool.
Sorry I wasn't clear I meant purely meaningless for Liverpool, I know Milan still had something to play for.

No qualms with picking whichever players they see fit, it's just you simultaneously get the incessant moaning from Klopp that they play too many games (specifically Salah & Mané) despite having ample opportunities to rest them.

It does make you wonder why the US don't like our football more because it's the most capitalist-driven set up there is.

Yet in their own sports complete failure is rewarded with the pick of the best young players and the market is closed so someone running a team better than you can't take your market share.

You are clueless. Obviously there is a gulf between "super" clubs and rest and that's bad for footy

But some of those teams still have good players and managers. I'm not gonna get into it cos ur always negative about modern footy just wanted to say you bring overly negative on this but will get likes because chavs who only watch motd will agree

Well compare the sides he’s listed there with their teams from the late 90s through to late 00s. And for the record I haven’t watched MOTD in years
