Rugby clubs might vary the grass length, but they'll want grass and good root structure, more important in rugby than football, so I suspect it's one of the top priorities for wasps to try and fix.
Fair comment, but long grass and short passing rarely works in my experience, and there's no real need for the pitch to be as smooth as you'd want it for that kind of footy either.
As for the Butts, in the days (long gone) when I used to do a bit of coaching there the pitch was horrible for football - far too bobbly. It looks a bit better now the rugby club are there, but then I'm watching from the stand with a beer these days.
I suspect it still wouldn't be a great surface for the round ball game, but if Ashdown is brave enough to sneak one in we could have a quick kickaround after the game with the other CCFC exiles that attend on occasion.
