State of the pitch (1 Viewer)

Rugby clubs might vary the grass length, but they'll want grass and good root structure, more important in rugby than football, so I suspect it's one of the top priorities for wasps to try and fix.

Fair comment, but long grass and short passing rarely works in my experience, and there's no real need for the pitch to be as smooth as you'd want it for that kind of footy either.

As for the Butts, in the days (long gone) when I used to do a bit of coaching there the pitch was horrible for football - far too bobbly. It looks a bit better now the rugby club are there, but then I'm watching from the stand with a beer these days.

I suspect it still wouldn't be a great surface for the round ball game, but if Ashdown is brave enough to sneak one in we could have a quick kickaround after the game with the other CCFC exiles that attend on occasion. ;)

Was at a forum last night with Wasps and they are aware pitch is bad and they are going to try and protect as much as possible. The actual statement was "the pitch isn't suitable for world class rugby or league two football!" I either missed our relegation or bloke from wasps has a crystal ball .....

Says it all about the situation.

And that was first home game of the saeason lol
They were also one of the most entertaining sides, very attacking football, but real battlers as well. It says something when a lot of fans from other clubs could probably still real off most of their team...Green, Mackey, Todd, Gemmill, O'Hare, Hinton, Davies, McGovern....well at least the spine of it, written as they came into my head so not positionally.

Plus David Nish, Roy McFarland, Kevin Hector, Charlie George for a while....

The only Derby players that I could name now are the ones that used to play for us.

Must be an age thing!

Strange that I remember a lot of those too, given that this was really before I was paying much attention to football.

The player that I really remembered from Derby in my time was, strangely enough, Mark Wright. I recall a match up there when he'd absolutely dominated the game for a long spell, and then David Speedie 'accidentally' head-butted him (in the back of the head!) when going up for a long ball. Wright, as I recall, was carried off, and I think we went on to win the game - it certainly makes for a better story if we did. :)
