Couldn't ACL try and buy the club?
Couldn't ACL try and buy the club?
Torch I said this many months ago that this will happen, whether a rugby league franchise or my favoured bet an American football franchise that will host NFL games 4/5 matches a season. I know they need more than that but I can see one day a British Grid iron team playing in the NFL in the coming years as the demand is definitely here for it and the Ricoh is slap bang in the middle of the country.
If not the rugby league franchise or say the Wasps locating permantly at the Ricoh as I think they once played at Reading for a few seasons I think, though I stand to be corrected, it could have been the London Irish who I am thinking of but they soon could become the Midland Irish, and also did'nt London welsh play at Oxford last year in the Prem as their ground wasn't up to grade, and I know they are top of league 1 this season, so they will be looking at finding another ground if they go back up to meet grading issues
Just my thoughts and shows options are out there if you have a facility like the Ricoh empty and looking for business
Rugby League - London Bronco's have recently announced their intention to leave their home Twickenham Stoop(fact, from their website). As far as i'm aware they haven't found anything yet. Nothing much going on at the Ricoh at the minute. No evidence for a move to the Ricoh but Coventry isn't that far from traditional Rugby League heartland but if we are talking franchise teams its a thought.
The new Super League fixtures are out and home game venue still shows TBA on their website....

Not likely though is it? I would have thought any prospective owner would want some real estate.
The reason they are leaving is lack of income due to a near non existent fanbase, which is pretty much what would happen here so its pretty much a non starter.
No rugby club will move here as with Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints eating up much of the local fanbase along with the Cov Rugby Club followers, who would support it?
I support Cov RFC because they're Coventry's team. If Man Utd were suddenly parachuted into the Ricoh, how many here would go and watch them instead of CCFC (assuming CCFC were still in the City)?
.
Hmm... from a rugby fan's viewpoint, can I just say that I'd have no interest in watching a 'bigger' team like London Irish play at the Ricoh on a regular basis or especially instead of watching Cov RFC.

Personally, and imho etc., 'franchise' teams in any sport are an abonimation - I'd hate it if the Ricoh got involved in anything like this.
Why not CovRFC there instead of us if they wanted to (and I'm not saying they would)? I'm sure there would be financial stuff to be worked out but it would be better if someone was using the pitch whilst we're not. ACL should only offer the same terms as their last offer to us or it might act as a red rag to SISU.
Does it not seem like the council are biding their time waiting for something to happen?
What could that be?
Could they be hoping we will get promoted to strengthen their position in negotiations?
maybe they would try and out-wait SISU's new stadium alternative?
one season?
two seasons?
three seasons?
OMG!......
And kicked out!Nothing will happen before the Judicial Review is heard.
Why not I hear Coventry United are moving to the Butts next season due to bigger crowds?
And kicked out!
What gone from 10 to 20 has it? Be lots of postponements if two teams play on the same pitch.

You can be childish & take the piss if you want, but here is clear evidence of the current crowds as posted on their twitter feed. They ain't hiding anything.
Wow nice hill there as well

Actually the hill is where the photographer was standing (and usually 5 or 6 more casual spectators in the 4 or 5 times I've looked in on a game)
I am sure you agree then that doubling the attendance will not mean a need to groundshare with the Butts.

They certainly wouldn't. They own the ground (paying peppercorn 'ground rent' to the city council), and average 1252 per match which is a fraction of the main stand's capacity, never mind the whole ground. Why not CovRFC there instead of us if they wanted to (and I'm not saying they would)? The Bears will also be going 'pro' within the next 12 months as they step up to the pro leagues, but it's doubtful that they'll get more than a few hundred in there until they get to the Superleague (if they don't, it won't be for the want of ambition).
The Butts is a great friendly little ground with bags of potential for expansion - I can't see either Cov or The Bears wishing to leave it any time soon!
