While I'm at it, what was the logic behind him being non-league?

Was it as simple as Forest Green paid more than lower level league clubs?

He comes from a league background, after all. He also tries hard, so you'd assume he's always had the attitude to do well. Therefore, the only assumption *I* can make, is that Forest green as an ambitious, progressive club were more attractive than the league clubs on offer, at the time.

Am I right in this assumption however? Anyone know? (I note one poster on this board may well know, for sure!)

It happens look at Vardy Leicester. I think sometimes they appreciate the opportunity more second time around. I like Stokes, tries hard and seems to have the ability to improve.

i thought he had a good game yesterday despite Murphy making things difficult for him in the first half.

Are Forest Green fully professional? Just wondered, because if they were semi-professional maybe Stokes had another job too.

I know about half the Conference sides are professional.

They are. They have a monied owner too, who took over shortly before Stokes signed, hence my assumption.

Because unlike Vardy (who never signed professional terms with a club) Stokes had a good youth background, had played (albeit only a couple) league games, and had opportunity to try and stay in the league when released by Bolton.

I would assume they are - aren't they the club owned by an ecological millionaire - wants an eco stadium, sells only vegetarian food etc?

Thought he was dropped it in a few times by his peers yesterday but recovered well. Took him a while to get back up to pace with League Football but having a decent season on the whole. There is plenty of talent in the lower leagues. I know of former internationals who played Prem football until recently that earn anything up to (and beyond in some cases) a grand a game at National/N&S/Evostick level.

The documentary on Salford (well worth a watch!) was eye-oipening that even at their level, they were paying Gareth Seddon £400pw. I know they kind of have... backers, but that's not bad for a part-time wage for a player who's hardly had a stellar career in the league.

He has worked really hard since being here, as evidenced by his ever improving fitness and ultimately performance.

He is solid defensively, despite being left exposed by the various wingers that have played in front of him. He constantly tries to support the attack and overlaps where possible. He makes the odd mistake perhaps, but what footballer does not?

Yet he still gets criticised by idiots, who have no idea about football. And of course, because he's a former Forest Green reserve player. Doesn't he know we are mighty the Coventry City.
