Equal or better than sheaf last year....Interestingly, James missed 10 games for Bristol City last season. Their record in those games was P10 W1, L9
Equal or better than sheaf last year....
He's not coming to improve the team long term. If he's as good as Eccles it's all we need for a short term fix. It will also show the doubters that we need that extra manI know James played 40 games for Bristol last season but it smacks of desperation for me.
Another body and experience maybe, but I don't consider him any better than Eccles.
Said a few days back on the free agent thread he's worth a one year deal... just what we need is Matty.Conflicted because it really does feel like 2020 minus Hamer. But can see sense to get some leadership and know how into the centre of the park
Well, we’re desperately light. At least James would be an upgrade on Kelly from last season.I know James played 40 games for Bristol last season but it smacks of desperation for me.

This is it hopefully allows the 4-3-3 to work correctly by allowing Eccles and Jack to play as 8s with Matty or Shesf playing a 6For me it allows Eccles to play the 8 role he’s better suited for, it’ll be Sheaf or James on the pitch as a six.

I would prefer we played with a 6 and two 8s rather than a 6, 8 and 10. I think it would stop us being outnumbered in midfield as Rudoni is often too far up where he should be closer to Eccles and Torp.
We need Simms to be coming a little deeper for the ball with his back to goal too as it pulls defenders out and creates space for the wide attackers to exploit.

Really!! Great stat findingInterestingly, James missed 10 games for Bristol City last season. Their record in those games was P10 W1, L9
Think we'd at least need to be in a reasonable position in the league for Billing to even possibly consider it... lets hope thats the case by Jan.Billing + cash in for Simms in Jan but a RB with the cash. Squad becomes:
Dovin/Wilson
MvE/RB
Thomas/Lats
Binks/Kitching
Bidwell/Dasilva
Sheaf/James
Rudoni/Torp
Billing/Eccles
Saka/Rapha
BTA/Bassette
Wright/EMC
Looks much more balanced, might even have spare cash for a LB or CB upgrade.
My point is, he's an aging midfielder who I'm not sure is an upgrade on what we've got.
He's definitely better than Kelly but does James start ahead of Eccles even without Sheaf?

Very trueSimms will probably have to have shown some form too.
I doubt Billing + cash for Simms will still be on the table come January.Billing + cash in for Simms in Jan but a RB with the cash. Squad becomes:

For me he does, because he offers something different. My point is, he's an aging midfielder who I'm not sure is an upgrade on what we've got.

Sam Clucas is horrificJames or Sam Clucas would stiffen the midfield, both tougher than Eccles and Torp
Not quite as simple as that. Even on a 'free' this is a very risky deal. He's likely to want a high wage & some security so a 1 year deal may not be appealing. Whilst he played a good amount last season, he has also struggled with injuries in his career, including missing the end of last season with a hernia problem that required surgery.Considering? Get him in now. Enough faffing around trying to get more warm bodies for the hole that is our midfield, we've let Palmer, O'Hare and Hamer go and only brought in Rudoni in.
I was thinking that what is everyone on about regarding Ellis simms and billing?where has this talk of Billing come from, surely he wouldnt even consider coming here.
I get the point, however Sheaf is likely to miss another 10-15 games in the season going off previous seasons. I think without someone like this in, we will struggle to even pick up a point a game in those games. Not quite as simple as that. Even on a 'free' this is a very risky deal. He's a very good player but, as others have said, this does look a bit desperate.

This is the same journalist who was pushing O’Hare to every club on land over the summer. James is also with Wasserman, reads like a come and get me pleaConflicted because it really does feel like 2020 minus Hamer. But can see sense to get some leadership and know how into the centre of the park
