I don't know why they bothered to appoint him in the first place but he hasn't been there for a year. What they need is some stability there not a new guy every 9-12 months. It's mad how fucked up it is there.

You've seen what their chairman is like, a problem gambler who acts on emotion not rationale

They think they're so much better than they are. Mid-table in league one is a real achievement for a club like that.

Biggest club in league 1. Like us couldn’t believe they ended up there (of course we sank one further) and now finding just how difficult it is to get out. If they are to return to where they believe they belong they have to get stability and build around their next crop of youngsters and not over priced ex names

If they don't make it this season and the salary cap kicks in, they will really struggle to get out of L1. I think they will go up this season, they have some good players but Parkinson wan't the man to get the best from them. Worth a couple of quid on them being promoted now.

Only 7 points off top tbf.

4/1 to win the league on SkyBet.

Shit manager was never going to last there... Clubs too big for him really

For what he had available to him, he's massively underachieved

Just had a look at Ready to Go, they are such a bunch of thick entitled arseholes. Fingers crossed whoever it is fails to get them up and they end up in utter oblivion

They're saying they don't want people like Paul Cook because 'he's unproven' despite two promotions and a mini miracle with Wigan (points deduction aside), and they don't want some lower league managers like the Crowleys because they think they're entitled to a big name just because they're a 'big club' (lol). For some reason the majority seem to be pinning their hopes on Gus Poyet returning, because he's a manager who can get them to the Premier League. More chance of the National League the way they're going.

Edit: I don't normally look at their forum, but as they're in turmoil I made a joyous exception.

They are at the stage we used to be at.. Wanting big name managers and players whilst ignoring the glaringly obvious problems from top to bottom..

It will click eventually, like it did with us

I think they’re a club that needs to sink a bit lower and then start again.
Cost them a few ££££s. Two and a half years left on contract. Next 2 games are home to Wigan and Burton (bottom 2) so should get 6 points (although Burton still have a few decent players). Paul Cook obvious choice. They have some crap forwards, but rest of squad not too bad. Won't get top 2, but should make play offs. Usual them v Pompey, wash, rinse, repeat.

Fans from the north east are whacky

Some guy on 5 live was spitting blood Newcastle won the other night and said the worst thing that could happen is Steve Bruce succeeds. His “logic” is that Bobby Robson will turn in his grave at the negative style being played. He admitted he wants them to lose every week until he’s sacked.

Morons - it's as if Bruce himself isn't one of their own. I think he's doing a good job there tbh, they're comfortably mid table. They must understand by now that their 2-3 years of challenging for the title was a blip. Since the 50s they've been midtable with the occassional relegation.

I thought Bruce would get them relegated, but if he can keep them mid table he is doing a fine job with little support from above.

He will be helped this year that there are three or four awful teams in the prem

Going by the couple of times I've seen them this season I wouldn't say their football is even that bad. Granted it's not exactly swashbuckling but it's nowhere near as turgid as they're making out.

Bruce always does well to begin with. It's in 2-3 seasons time it'll go wrong.

Paul Cook is exactly the sort of appointment Sunderland should be making. As for Newcastle, their constant slagging off of Mike Ashley for consistently delivering them a profit and stabilising them in that league shows they haven’t learned from the ‘Keegan’s the messiah man’ days. The guy is a pretty nasty piece of work but he knows how to run a business.

Besides that though they’re football mad and good people up there. A bit like Scots but better at football and fewer arseholes

Living up here I get to hear from Newcastle fans (mainly) and also a few Mackems.

As much as Parkinson wasn't a good appointment in terms of footballing philosophy, I think it was a rash move to pull the trigger and they'd have probably have went up with him. Lots of stuff wrong at their football club, they really need a reset. The expectation levels and impatience of the fans does not help either.

"Stevie Bruces shithouse mags" are extremely boring to watch and with the exception of a few players, are an average at best team. I think most of the rational fans think he's doing a good job with what he has at his disposal. Defensively they seem pretty solid. They were all mad on the takeover up here, not sure I'd want us to be in that position, even if it was to bring us success.

You could say that about almost anybody.
There's an obvious pattern with Bruce's teams. He gets them organised when they haven't been, but they lose what little imagination they had in the first place, and become dour and feeble.
