There seems to be an issue with Hussey's defensive capabilities within the club. Both
Coleman and Boothroyd stated he was a too inexperienced defender at Championship level.
However, in the past he has always been thrown on when we have been chasing the game to add a bit of pace and width to the attack.
Why not them convert him to a midfielder a la Gareth Bale and give him a free rain to attack down the flank. He is much faster than both McSheffrey and McIndoe and at least offers more natural support defensively for whoever is left back and a much better all round option.
This would also free McSheffrey up to get into his more natural goalscoring positions without having to worry about chasing back to cover an already exposed weak position in the team.
When he came on last week against Hull he was like a breath of fresh air! He put in 2 decent crosses and ran at their defence but I guess his main job is to defend.
I do agree about him being in a Gareth Bale role if the formation allows it though. He seems to look up and whip a cross in at any chance he has and that is what the strikers need!
I'd like to see Clarke and Hussey both in the team tomorrow. Hussey has always pushed the team forward into attacking positions when ever I've watched him play and that is most definitely what we need to be doing tomorrow.
I think Clarke will start finding his feet under our new style of play as he is much more suited to the passing game. Only problem is he is going to struggle dealing with diagonal long balls from the opposition and other teams will use this to their advantage.
Hussey has to play, saw him a few times in pre season and was probably our best player in those games, has pace and can put a fantastic cross in, shame he got injured at the start of the season. Might be some questions his defensive side, but he can't be any worse than O'Halloran, the amount of time he has been beaten with ease or passed the ball straight back to the other team in recent games has been unreal. Hussey should get his chance for the rest of the season.
So I'd mirror the team above but with Crainie coming into CB and either Clarke or Keogh playing RB.
