You mean like Reid's 2 year and Turnbull's 3 year? I think K Thomas has a 2 year too.It probably depends on the type of player he was trying to sign.

Joy won't know who each player is or care, there will be a set number and as long as CCFC are below that set number I doubt she even looks.

It's up to Robins / Widdrington to then work within that number as best they can.

but he didn't recruit as many players on contracts as we have now - but was that down to him or the owners?
Am I right to say that the only player due to leave the club in January is the Duck?

So how many left? And remember any loaned out.

We most probably paying less in wages to those that have left.

What point are you trying to make?

We probably are paying less wages, but we've gone down a division? The budget is hardly going to increase. The reality is, we've signed a lot of players from divisions above us; Andreu, McDonald, Vincenti, Grimmer, Nazon and McNulty. Doyle and O'Brien (albeit as a sub GK) came from the L2 champions. Kelly is an established professional in League 1 and 2. Barnet fans considered Pearson one of their best players minus his injury record. Leaving Biamou and Hyam who were signed as development players. You couldn't do this without a large budget, even if it is by L2 standards, the goal for this season, set out by MR and the players have set out since preseason, is promotion.

Credit to everyone involved in the club, clearly MR and TW have been busy identifying realistic targets and it's so far, so good for me. It's reductionist to say it's purely MR's changes to the club because he must have been given assurances otherwise I doubt he'd have taken the job in the first place.

He probably could have, it looks more like bad planning and then panic. He brought in 8 in the Winter window.

The fact Robins was straight in getting players to suit what he wanted to do, whereas Mowbray seemed to be throwing darts at a list of players and then dawdling about.

What is this revamp and huge change you speak of? You mean that Robins hired a scout/recruitment guy in Widdrington? Like Mowbray had Venus?

Idiotic way to look at as just 2 personal changes. We have added many scouts too. Thus more findings and possibly gems.

Also first 5 or 6 signings all seemed to be widdringtons suggestions so thats a huge difference

Not trying to make any point. Well, not other than Robins went for realistic targets and managed to bring them in and quickly. Mowbrays targets kept going elsewhere so we ended up with the players the other clubs didn't want.

They are the facts as we know them. You seem to be guessing that there is something else to it.

Have we? How many did we have before and after?

Your 2nd line then shows 1 of the personel changes making a huge difference...

I believe the bonus system has changed too
The one last year that Fisher boasted about saving the club money also deterred senior players from signing

Exactly. Venus was a big problem. But i dont think he had resources tw does. Fisher said at ens of season big changes needes to be made to entire infrasteucture. I seriously doubt 2 swaps is the entire overhaul

Lots of changes have been made it seems pretty obvious. Great to see it working.

I'd say those 2 swaps make the most difference as everything else filters down from them.

The perceived togetherness of the team isn't about the length of contract they're on. The biggest factor is that the squad was assembled on the whole prior to them returning from summer breaks. They went away together to Spain and have had time to get to know each other and build some rapport. Robins has been consistent in his selection looking to build a system and way of playing.

This time last summer, Mowbray hadn't even got a first 11 sorted.

It also seems to show he wants winners as well and players who will run through a wall to get a win and hate losing. That will make a massive difference to players around them.

Yes, he has signed several "captains", and it is no surprise that Willis finds himself without even the VC...

To add on to your point, it's no coincidence we've signed players who have experienced promotion from League 2. In addition, we've mostly signed experienced pros and that experience will help the team grind out results and during bouts of loss in-form, injuries/suspensions.

Agreed, unfortunately I don't see Willis as captain/VC material at this stage of his career, perhaps when he's older, but not at the mo.

The biggest telling change this year is the character and mindset of the players signed, and the very fact they've been players identified fit for the level and have the desire to play for us within the set budget.

But when asked about whether he had assurances, he skirted around the question. Surely he would just say yes i have if he did.

Not much point in me speculating because only Robins knows the real answer to that. He wanted 12 signings, and he got 12 signings. The consensus amongst us fans is that the quality of signings has been good, so I'm happy.

Haha I don't think anyone is that naive! I'm just happy the manager has received some backing and that we've put together a squad which should be capable of challenging for promotion.

That's what I'm saying, has he been backed? Or has he done the best with what he's been given.

I don't imagine he's been backed anymore than TM was, it's more a case of knowing the level and extensive knowledge of TW of this level.

To me it's more a case of the management team having a better knowledge of knowing the level and working to maximise the budget identifying players who fit the criteria for a attempt at a return to league one.

If anything I'd say MR and TW are working under tighter constraints than TM and MV did last year.

I'd say the truth lies somewhere down the middle. We probably have one of the biggest budgets in the league. Andreu was apparently wanted by Oxford, so it's a good sign when you're beating teams in the league above for players. I imagine that is the case for a few of our signings too.

Put it this way, I can't see Robins complaining to his L2 colleagues about a 'lack of resources'...

Yes you're right, but I think it's down to Robins and Widdrington over anything else. Remember Sisu and the club are separate entities.:banghead:
