Since bosman the players know they can sit out the contracts & get more money when they sign for another club.
We got fees for Fox, Dann, Juke, Turner. King only signed one season, so the real failures were Westwood & Gunny, who we got nothing for as far as I'm aware. Ward was another one who sat out his contract. As for Fredy Deadwood, don't get me started!
Clingan & Cranie can walk now, their contracts end in the summer. I believe Macca, Bell, Baker, Murphy, Keogh, Hussey, McPake, Dunn, Deegan, McDonald, Wood & all the youger players are contracted next year or beyond, Platt I think they'll most likely give another year to.
Jack, we got a free for Gunna. As he was under 23. But we don't know exactly how much. I would hazard a guess of £300,000.
Don't want to turn this into a thread about the merits of players, but Plattini won't score more than 5 goals a season. I know he does flicks ons etc, but he's a woefully limited veteran player. He puts in an honest shift and most fans appreciate that and forgive him a lot for it, but he's not the way back. Let him go.
Just too depressed to comment on the rest.
Fair points, TBH Platt is only the stability option, nothing special about him, there will be better available, it is just a judgement on costs vs. risks taken. McDonald will store a hat full in L1, I suspect they'll get a loan striker in from the premiership to parner him as fiirst choice.
It could be bull, but seems realistic considering that we had Cork and Henderson on Loan.
So... if we'd held on to the best of the players that have all left since around 08/09 we could have had this starting 11 of Players that are now all in serious contention for Promotion or are in the Premiership:
